I think you need to hire (a/some) English majors and some average people to read through the directions (trying them out with figures) and clarify confusing passages. I had accounting in college (tho many years ago) and had a lot of trouble in some of the difficult areas.
Pros: Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare

I have been doing my own taxes since 1968. I believe it's important to understand how and why we finance our government. When computers became available for personal use, I tried two or three programs for tax preparation as a time saver. Settled on H&R early in the process. I've been using it consistently for over 30 years.

I was happy to have the option to buy the software instead of using the online filing. I was unhappy with the form limitations that affected the state filing. I was also annoyed by the relentless push to upgrade my product choice. I feel that I would not have had an accurate return if I didn't already know what I was doing.
