The H&R Block's whole e-file infrastructure failed on tax deadline eve and the next day. The company didn't communicate this outage or the eventual restoration nor an apology. At best, this is expensive software that doesn't change much year over year.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Hard to import documents
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Why would I ever do my taxes before the deadline?

Try to upload my taxes on April 15 below and behold H&R Block servers were down all day and I had to mail in my taxes....
Cons: Time consuming, Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents

Normally, I wouldn't wait until the last minute to do my taxes and the software gave me a last-minute scare because it failed to transmit my taxes to the IRS and resulted in five overdraft fees in my checking account. I will no longer be doing my taxes at the last minute with the h&r block software

I've been using this yearly for well over 20 years. Only had an issue one time importing old data. Unfortunately, the program isn't getting better. It's the same thing every year. I wish they could expand on their explanations, include more examples, etc., but it's the same old thing year after year.
