My experience with the software this time was a bit so-so. What this means was that some instructions and questions for the interview were not so clear. Overall, it was still ok. The “bad gateway” issue on 4/14 when e-filing was a black eye and caused additional unnecessary pressure for this tax season.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Fast
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to import documents

As in years past, the software does a "review" of your return at the end. It found I had included a line about a REIT and warned me that the software didn't support that. However, I hadn't included anything about a REIT and was unable to find any way to remove that entry.

Great features for investment income and small bus

The software is ideal for including investment income and small business income. It still struggles with optimizing ACA health care information against credits for small business health care deductions.

4/15 link to efile state/fed returns together didn’t work. Could’ve used free programs online and done the same thing. Bought program for efiling purposes. Sad deal.

While the program is simple enough to use, H&RBlock had a MAJOR service failure that prevented thousands of users from e-filing their returns the final weekend before the tax filing deadline. There was zero communication to customers about this failure event caused by their servers 'bad gateway' error. H&RBlock failed their customers and the citizens of the United States. I will never work with them again.

Cons: Time consuming

The program was great as always but related to a "bad gateway" error my return never showed as filed nor did I ever receive confirmation of the IRS accepting the return. I spent hours attempting to troubleshoot the problem while trying all the steps listed but to no avail. Then the next morning I see an email that the IRS had accepted my return. Well... did they or didn't they, I didn't know. This was very frustrating and worrisome.
