A reliable and easy to use tax software

I started to use H&R Block Premium software since 2012. The federal return is always easy to use and cover all my tax needs. The instructions are clear, and only a few cases need me to figure out how to do it correctly. If it happened in this year, it would be improved next year.
The state return programs are not as good as the federal, but they are improved every year. The 2023 California tax return program is hard to use on CA Form 3885A and CA Form 3801. Hope it get better next year.

Works well and guides user through the return. The area for generating estimated taxes for the next year requires a lot of work on the part of Block to make it work properly and easily.

Good interview process,. I have a w-2 job and a side personal business. Completing a tax return for the w-2 job if that was all would be very easy to do even manually. I never would be able to complete or even know about the multiple forms required when the personal busines is added.

After extensive web search and nearly an hour on the "help" line with someone who was very had to understand, they were unable to direct me to a way to deduct the CO EV credit.
Cons: Time consuming, Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to import documents

No references to what the software program is really doing to the numbers entered makes understanding your taxes difficult if not impossible.
