I have used H&R Block premium tax software for the last 15 years. It is easy to install and very user friendly. I have/had a small business and the software walked me through filing both my federal and state taxes for the business and our personal taxes. I would recommend this software to anyone needing to do personal and small business tax preparation.
Once i learned the program it was much eaier. The print is a bit small for senior eyes. All in all it worked well and comparable to taxes done by a professional. The option for paying via H&R Block percentage-wise as "convenience fee" was much too high for what we owed, so I ended up e-filing but sent in my payment via check.
You need a little knowledge about investment taxes but generally easy to use and explanations abound. Applying to IRS very easy. Could be improved by allowing investors to return to the line from which they left when verifying imported stock sale information.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
The software was lacking the form 8911 for EV charging equipment. This could have boosted my return by up to $1000. After using H&R Block for the last several years, this past year will most likely be my last.
Very buggy and not as intuitive as prior additions. In addition I had a hard time getting a hold of customer support. Once I did they were helpful but the software itself kept having issues.
I've been a happy H&R Block user for years but the 2023 premium edition was buggy this year and wasted a lot of my time (e.g. the Federal Return/Owe amount label on the top left didn't match the actual value at the end of the return, there were several 'hidden' copies of forms that were not reflected on the FE, calculations reflected the copies...had to find the copies and delete them via the 'whole forms' view) .... considering switching to Turbo tax next year
