Cannot handle more than 4 states on a W2

"Premium" software will not let you input more than 4 states on a single W2. As a consultant, I typically have to file returns for 3-6 states a year (had 5 this year). Because of this issue, I had to file all state and federal returns by mail instead of e-filing.
Another issue is that the software does not automatically print all forms needed for filing. The instruction sheet tells you which other forms need to be printed, but it won't do it for you.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Overpriced

Too pricey for what you get. Hidden extra charges to e-file state returns. Payment option opens in Microsoft Edge browser which is just wrong. I clicked the option to print a receipt and the browser's anti-popup window shut everything down. Really poor that.
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Basically works fine, but the inputs for a Schedule E are a total disaster. It's difficult and confusing to enter E expenses. Anyone who has rentals or royalties probably has these organized so that the obvious thing would be to have inputs for "item A" income and expenses together, then "item B" income and expenses, etc.
Also, why on earth do you have to separately enter BOTH the amount of refund carried forward to next year and the amount you want to receive from the IRS?
Cons: Time consuming

Horrible for calculating estimated tax payments
on April 5, 2020

I have used H&R Block for quite a few years and prior to that used Turbo Tax. Neither of these are worth anything for calculating estimated tax payments. If you are going to let me give income amounts for the next tax year, you should at least use the information provided when calculating the amount of tax to be paid.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Easy to use program and helps when the information from your last years return is automatically imported to the new tax period. Been using this program for years. Never do my taxes without it.

Software Improvement and deficiencies

Some items should be automatically populated in the state filing from the federal filing e.g. add back bonus deductions.
HSA contribution section is very confusing especially for one income household. with only one HSA. Why ask if spouse have HSA and then also ask if have health insurance. You already have the info from the W2 so why ask so many confusing questions.
Bonus depreciation in the federal filing is also very confusing. I don't remember if I claimed bonus depreciation in the prior year and what that number is. Why HRblock ask this question?? Why do I i use HRblock every year and not have the program automatically populate this section from the prior HRblock data already in the same HRblock folder? The program should be smarter than that especially when it tells me where to find this number in the prior year filing.
Pros: Easy to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have been a Turbo tax user for years and decided to try HR Block since price was about half of turbo tax, I found that features are pretty much the same and was able to import my data from last years taxes seamlessly will definately be using them for years to come, Thanks.
