Received The Same Return As My CPA Calculated

I had my CPA calculate my 2017 household return, and her calculation matched the H&R Block software return calculation. The HRB software is 80% cheaper. I'll continue to use the CPA for my business, but I'm using HRB for my personal taxes!
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast

Good for non first time users and less expensive.

I have used this program for several years. Compared to other software programs available this one requires more reading on the part of the user. For that you are rewarded with more money back.
Pros: Maximizes refund
Cons: Time consuming

Glitches in Software

Unable to fix accuracy varificaton. I followed instructions and the program would not change the accuracy. Also the program continued to fight me when I tried to save standard deduction vs itemized.
Pros: Maximizes refund
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents

I did 3 returns however there was a problem when we filed our return saying that the code was not valid

I thought the differences between the Federal and MA State depreciation, and Section 179 should have been programmed into you product instead of making me plug in an adjustment. You just didn't want to spend any effort on this.....disappointing.

HRB software is good, but for a few annoying holes

holes:
1. no external docs. will import for me - have to enter everything manually, import some vital data from previous return
2. unless I missed how to do it (looked for at least 30 min.) program does not import 1099 payer data from previous year - have to re-enter all payer names, addresses and EINs for each one by one
3. navigation is often lugubrious, for example: if one needs to jump into a specific place in the interview, it usually requires starting at the beginning of that interview topic sequence and clicking through a stack of screens - program needs a big navigation map in a sidebar which can be used to click directly into an entry screen without doing the whole tour for that section
4. 2018 took me to the ACA form 8962 data entry screen when needed - 2017 did not - the return was rejected - missing form was not caught in the HRB final data check - I had to do an 8962-A follow up and actually had to talk to an IRS agent to get it done - then (no fault of HRB) but the Government Shutdown delayed the refund even further, to the point it got lost in their system - finally got the refund actuated by calling before doing 2018 taxes just now before the extension DL - what a series of cock ups - all this (as mentioned) no fault of HRB, but a glitch in the 2017 program initiated the cascade of cock ups - like I often say: most corporations, on their best day, are about as good as the government

Good but one significant problem

I encountered a problem in your software with form 8829.
Moving data manually from line 8A to line 16 was required because of a flag your software created. It seems to me this should have been automatic. But cudos to your phone staff who helped me after 90 minutes of waiting on the line and then being placed in a que wondering if I went back to the beginning of the line. also, I uploaded my file to your website without assurance it will be confidential/destroyed.
Moving data manually from line 8A to line 16 was required because of a flag your software created. It seems to me this should have been automatic. But cudos to your phone staff who helped me after 90 minutes of waiting on the line and then being placed in a que wondering if I went back to the beginning of the line. also, I uploaded my file to your website without assurance it will be confidential/destroyed.
