Super easy to use and very navigable! I file using the software every year (previously used the online program) due to it's ease of use & accuracy.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents, Fast

Accuracy Review of Michigan Tax

On my initial Michhigan State Tax Return, I failed to mark the boxes in A for Part 2 of the Pension Schedule (Form 4884), and I failed to enter my pension amounts in the box F. I file this State return. My Michigan refund was lower than prior years (
$1900), and during a review I discoverd my error. I am filing an amended State return. My iniial error was not discovered by your "Accuracy Review."

I have been purchasing the H&R Block CD for a few years and I rely on it. I can work on my taxes at my own pace any time of the day or night, make revisions when I get new documents, and know that I have the right to ask for help if I need it.
I love the peace of mind that H&R Block gives me by letting me know if my return is "risk free", all of the helpful hints, "Learn more" features, planning tips, and the wonderful option to quickly e-file. It took less than 2 hours after I e-filed to get a confirmation that the IRS had accepted my return. I still don't understand all of the legal tax jargon, but so far, I haven't been audited! (Importing documents didn't work, but it might have been the fault of the financial institution.)

Still hard to navigate

E file never works right same thing again this year. No clear instructions for crypto currency gains/loss. 1099-R form codes unclear on taxes taken out for state returns. Hard to find the AGI from last year.
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I had used an accountant for my freelance business because I thought I needed to. But I switched to HR Block a few years ago and its been awesome. I really have much more control over my taxes now, and I'm not paying an accountant a few hundred dollars anymore.

Improved Ease of Use

Repeat purchaser - many years. Since I used to do taxes for a part time income, I wouldn't be a repeat customer of the H&R Block program if didn't like it.
And this year H&R Block improved use-ability - finally. We used to be forced into the standard screen resolution to be able to have access to [Next] & [Back] buttons on most tax input screens. And the 'standard' was not the best size for people with bad eyesight. This year H&R Block corrected this. in 2018 MOST screens allowed us to scroll up and down so that we could maintain the best resolution for our eyesight AND access the entire data entry screen. THANKS! GREAT!

However, there are still a few screens remaining that require we make a 'resolution' change to fully view them. This is very inconvenient. So - please - correct these (make them also fully scroll-able) and, in my opinion, your software will then be as close to perfect as is possible.

Self Employed Tax Return

I’ve always used an accounting firm for taxes because the self-employed process & requirements are dauntingly complicated. This year I decided to go it on my own. For the most part, this package does the job very well. I’d have liked there to be links to particular IRS rules at different points, but I was able to find those rules without much difficulty. A truly outstanding product feature is that an H&R Block expert will review your work with you. The agent I worked with spotted inconsistencies I was able to correct and his input went a long way toward relieving my anxiety over accuracy/completeness.
