I have used the H&R Block Premium Software for a number of years. The steps to complete the return are well thought through. There is consistency between the years on how to use the software. I would recommend the product.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents

I've been using H and R Block software for many. I have found it easy to use and accurate. It would be nice if the section on inherited IRAs was expanded. Also if you could print some of the screenshots.

I’m happy that for the first time in three years the IRS took my electronic transfer rather than me having to print and mail it. (Even though I properly used the prior year AGI as code , etc.)
I’m still a little miffed at your service because I bought your expensive self-employed business and rental edition software, yet when I tried to appropriately write off/amortize my newly replaced roof on my rental property, all your instructions said was “ yes this can be done, see the IRS code….” Instead of offering me easy answers. It’s like you chose to skip helping us landlords with this.
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund
I would recommend this to a friend!

This software sucks. I had to directly fill out irs forms and even print one out in the middle of things. And the help is worthless. I had to google for help often and that often led me to the turbotax help. And in the end the irs kept rejecting my form and the error code that I got back had no explanation whatsoever so I had to guess. There is no way these taxes were done correctly. I've been using this software for 10 years and as my taxes got more complex the software got worse and worse.
And that's just for the Fed taxes. The State taxes are even worse.
Next year it's turbotax!

Poor instructions and little help with a 1099-LTC. Complicated process to file an extension; program would not allow a electronic signature and IRS would not accept it without one. I have used this program and its predecessors for decades, but plan to use something else next year.
Pros: Fast
Cons: Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
