Tho more old school looking than a hard side, being able to put it on a smaller surface to open (because it won’t have to lay flat on both sides) will be a plus in the tiny Japan hotel rooms.

We've used this on a few trips and really like it. It rolls and spins well. We've flown both Hawaiian and United and haven't had issues with size.
