Regret my purchase

I bought this model thinking it was the best but now I realise that I was totally wrong! The vaccum is way to high and doesn’t work properly or not at all. I tried everything and watch videos thinking maybe I was doing something wrong but no. I do not recommend this model at all, specially for the price!

Not ddurable

This is my 4th FoodSaver and it will be my last. I purchased the high-end model, thinking it would last longer, but within a few months the vacuum stopped evacuating air completely and the auto-seal feature stopped working altogether. If you are forced to do a manual seal, air enters the bag. Also VERY hard to clean!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We are sorry to hear that vacuuming in your unit FM5400 is not working properly. We would like to highly suggest trying some troubleshooting tips that might help with the issue:
1. Check the upper and lower gaskets of the machine. If either of these is damaged or dirty, the unit will not vacuum properly. Clean any food materials from the gaskets. Remove the lower gasket, flip it over, reinsert it into the unit and test the unit.
2. Make sure the open end of the bag is resting entirely inside of the Vacuum Channel. The edge of the bag should not go beyond the Vacuum Channel. Do not make your own side seams for a FoodSaver Bag. They are manufactured with special side seams sealed all the way to the outer edge.
3. Check the bag for leaks. Seal the bag with some air in it. Submerge it in water and apply pressure. Bubbles indicate a leak. If the bag has a leak, a new bag is needed.
4. We recommend you pre-freeze meats and other moist foods for 1-2 hours before vacuum sealing. Excess liquids from moist foods can cause the unit not to vacuum and permanent damage can occur.

Very disappointed

I've had this sealer for less than 8 months, the clear viewing window hinge literally broke off. Go figure you can't replace just this part! I would understand if I was hard on it or it was dropped but no I've hardly used it!.

The worst machine I’ve ever used.

We purchased this machine as our older one wasn’t sealing anymore. What a mistake. Not user friendly and hasn’t sealed a bag yet. Piece of absolute junk.

Very functional, powerful vacuum

This is my first vacuum sealer and I was a bit unsure because of the complaints about holding the bag in place to vacuum and seal.. I have no difficulty briefly pressing the bar while holding the bag, and it's upon the release of the bar that the machine grabs the bag and holds it in place as the vacuum starts. You don't need to keep holding the bag. I find it well designed. I like that the bag is vertical so that juices are less likely to be sucked into the machine. I am using every feature on this machine, I can do so much with it, so for me it's worth keeping on the counter. I also bought the mason accessories to vacuum seal glass jars and I am using them constantly to store food on the shelf or in the fridge. Both sizes work well and the jars hold the seal. Ziplock bags don't hold the seal for more than a day or two it seems, or at least not in my hands, so they're more for items in constant use. It's easy enough to re-seal. I can't rate the value, because it will depend on the longevity of the product.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Terrible machine

The cutter does not work and the seal bar is underneath your bag of goods..dumb place for it ! Super expensive paper weight ! I need a negative star to rate !!

I have wasted my money on this piece of crap! I feel like smashing this except for the fact that I can return it to Costco which I will be doing asap. This thing has a mind of its own!
