This is my third Foodsaver. This machine is so nice for making bags but the vacuum is 4-inches high and when the food is in the bag you insert it in the vacuum and you are to press a bar under it to start the vacuum and seal. I find it impossible to hold the full bag straight in the vacuum and press the bar at the same time. I have to use a 4-inch box to set my bags on. This is poor planning especially for the price. Also the sealer for the refrigerator zip locks has a hose that retracts but feels cheap. Makes me wonder how long it will take for it to stop retracting.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Completely Useless

I am handicapped and only have the use of one hand. You need 2 hands to seal anything with this model. I have been a foodsaver customer since you first introduced the first model many years ago. Now I can't use your product.

I bought this direct from Foodsaver.ca. Disappointingly the box was a drab cardboard box instead of one with printed pics that you'd get in the store ie Costco. What an odd way to save a few pennies on the part of the company. Its a $250+ unit it deserves better. This is my first vacuum sealer and I found the support material and instructions pitiful at best. I was truly lost. 1. It would be nice to have some guidance or tips on what bags to use for what purposes instead of them all jammed into a clear bag with no rhyme nor reason. Its a trial by fire. ie Which food stuff needs the gusset? 2. I had to call customer service to find out how to use the accessory jar sealer. Come to find out you have to remove apart of the plastic to get to the insert peg. If only it had a 'pull here' sticker or something which didnt leave you thinking you might break the unit if you pulled too hard. Now, about the unit, it seems pretty good, at least the product engineering team did a great job. I have floundered my way through using the device for example I find I have to slightly 'wet' the mason jar lid to keep it from popping off when I remove the white sealer attachment. Further I have been disappointed to find my zipper seal bags have 3x lost their seal with my coffee beans (maybe there are some defective bags) the rest seem to have been good. In terms of removing the drain reservoir I found this nail biting also as the tabs on either end seem very fragile. If only proper instructions came with.... All in all after my own wasted time trying to figure it all out, i'm happy with the look, the flexibility and the options. I'm very disappointed with the lack of consumer mind mapping in the un-boxing. Perhaps the team could order one themselves and see what its like and how they can improve upon things. Honestly my next purchase will likely be to upgrade to a chamber sealer instead of vacuum but for now this is a good household unit.
