This is my second X1 Carbon. First one was 1st generation and I am pleased to see lots of good changes, while keeping the X1 feel and performance. Only thing I would change would be to put the power button back above the keyboard - with it on the side I sometimes inadvertently hit it when moving the laptop.
First an foremost, a benefit of the gen 7 is that you can swap the Ctrl and Fn keys on the internal system. I thought the keyboard was broken because I was intuitively going to the bottom left corner when copying or pasting anything but then I realized I was pressing Fn and not Ctrl, after I switched it it was smooth sailing. The keyboard in general is so satisfying to type on I don't feel the urge to plug in my external keyboard when typing. It's a little annoying that you need to purchase an Ethernet dongle in order to get the functionality of the port, but I think this is better than the alternatives- at least you have a dedicated port and aren't having to occupy a USB or go without, and the dedicated port isn't making the laptop any wider than it needs to be. I rarely find myself wishing that the screen could get brighter or that the volume could get louder (although the volume is sometimes a little low on certain movies and videos). You often only need one hand to open it which is... handy. The internal cover for the camera is so much more convenient then trying to cover and uncover with something sticky and getting the laptop all sticky or having to replace the sticky thing because it's lost its stick. It runs relatively fast and I rarely hear the fan going.
The screen is 4K, it flickers really bad, this computer is going back.
