I literally sat in my laundry room to observe this appliance. Until someone arrives to reset it or tell me that my water supply or hook up is not sufficient enough, it'll remain 1 star.

Response from geappliances.comBy Avery, GE, January 18, 2021
Hello Tammy Bloss, We're so sorry for your washer experience and understand how the unbalanced issue would be frustrating. If the machine is overloaded, the clothes may not be able to move freely and may be more likely to throw the basket off balance. Also, the more the legs are extended, the shakier the washer will be during operation. We hope this information is helpful. Thanks for the valuable feedback. -Avery@GEA

BELIEVE THE BAD REVIEWS
on December 10, 2021

Our old washer died in January 2021 and we had to get a new one. Being COVID, options were very limited and I now understand why this model was one of the few available. I read many reviews about balance issues and how the cycles wouldn't complete and there would be a ton of water left standing and I chose to ignore them. Huge mistake. It started with just blankets and sheets. It then progressed to towels. And now, it only takes a sweatshirt to throw off the balance of the washer and it to not drain leaving my husbands work uniforms (Fireman) standing in a foot of water overnight. DO NOT GET THIS MACHINE. If I could go back in time I would. Attached is a photo of our 100 pound water soaked comforter that had to be pulled out and hand wrung and hung out to drip along with a mattress topper (separate cycle) to leave the barrel totally empty before it would drain. GE should be mortified with the "quality" of this machine.

Too early to know for sure!

Let me start by saying I’ve only owned this washer for 12 hours....but I’ve already done 10 loads! So I wanted to give my initial thoughts/comparisons to my previous washer & then I will update this review in 6 mos. So this model replaced a 7 year old 4.5 cf LG front load machine(I wish more reviewers would state their previous models as I feel that helps with the comparison on so many levels!). The previous machine cleaned clothes really well when it worked-but it seemed to always need repair-from day 1!!!. And there is no one locally that works on them so it was always a 4-6 week wait(with no washer). So when the drain pump went out Monday (the third time)I went to a local appliance store and they told me to stick with GE. Even over the more expensive Maytag! So that’s what I did. The tub on this machine is .5 cf bigger than my front loader but y’all even with the agitator it feels twice as big! This model has less options than my previous machine but honestly, I didn’t use but 3 of them anyway..The control panel is very user friendly and I had it connected to my WiFi in less than 5 mins. Love that I can fill the detergent reservoir and the machine will dispense the right amount. Also, nice being able to soak thing over night in my machine again! At first I thought something was wrong when I saw how much water it filled with(again that’s why I think it’s important to tell which type of machine replacing!)..as I never saw water in the tub with my fl..There are noises that this model makes that my previous one didn’t and vise versa. I was concerned it would be loud as the fl is pretty darn quiet but it actually is surprisingly quiet-the only time I can hear it is if the door is open and it’s in the spin cycle. But even then I have to be really listening for it! Now the most important thing...it cleans better than my front loader. Colors look brighter(didn’t even realize they were dingy!)and towels seem fluffier!! So these are just my initial thoughts and I will be updating again as I use it more. But so far I couldn’t be happier Wilma-that’s my machine’s nickname!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Not what I wanted, tho I could have done a better job of shopping. 1. My previous GE washer died and due to coronavirus was unable to see the washer I was buying. I wanted something bigger than 3.5 cubic feet, but the 5.0 is too deep for 3/4 family members to use easily. 2. I did not give enough weight to the 1 star reviews based on problems with unbalanced loads. Washer is on cement slab and balanced, so I did not anticipate any problems. However, in spite of careful loading, I have had problems with large items and unbalanced loads, requiring multiple load redistributions.
I thought about cutting my losses and offering it on Craigs list for cheap and buying a front-loader, but then I would feel it necessary to let the buyer know WHY I was selling it...
I wanted to be able to add extra water for wash and use a warm rinse, both of which I can do, but it IS necessary to add the water. My husband and I have watched more than one load wash, and the clothes that are above the water never change position so are never washed. I just use the whites setting for all non-delicate loads and pick my wash and rinse temps, spin cycle, and how much cleaning is needed. The cycle setting are unnecessarily complex (I miss my 22y/o GE washer). I don't think this can be excused by "technology is more advanced these days."
Having said all that, the washer works well for the most part. I know how to set the cycles and I leave the unbalanced issues to my husband to babysit, as he opposed the Craigslist cut our losses plan. I like the wifi thing though.
