State Returns too expensive
on April 8, 2019
Posted by: TheRonald4
You need to lower the cost of Business State tax returns. We pay 1 fee for the Federal tax return, which includes a variety of Corp., LLC, Partnership & Estate returns. This is fair. BUT with State, if I have a Corp., LLC, Partnership & Estate I have to buy 4 State software packages to print those returns ... far exceeding the cost of the Fed. If I have to file in several States ... I now have to buy 8, 12, or more State software packages ! And the State packages are not fully featured software, they are primarily for printing, transferring data from Fed. and asking the user if there are any adjustments.
What's great about it: Makes filing Federal Returns pretty efficient
What's not so great: Pay more for State software for each return type as Fed. for all return types
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Very Good Business Tax Program
on April 8, 2019

Overall - a very easy to use program for business filing. However - there are 2 annoying problem s with the 2018 version - first, was my subscription. I was signed up for the Business version, but it would only download the 2018 Home & Business version, which doesn't help me as I have a partnership. Second, is that the CA State software won't recognize my state issued business registration number. It will only accept numbers that begin with 19 or 20 (mine starts with 30). This may have been true a decade ago, but apparently no longer. It won't allow electronic filing as a result. I complained about this last year, but it still persists. Other than that, its all good. S
What's great about it: Easy step by step program
What's not so great: Inaccurate CA State Information

TT Business - Poorly Updated for New Laws

In turbotax business, the new stuff was very poorly detailed and little to help, even little to no step-by-step interviews. The new 199a section was the worst. Absolutely no help given. Step it up TurboTax!
What's great about it: traditional style
What's not so great: No explanation of new stuff

Challenges
on April 9, 2019

Surprised that Quickbooks Online was not able to be imported into Turbotax. I had to manually import the data into Turbotax and thus there was no time savings for using Quickbooks. Also the PDF print function keep getting errors to file my return. I had to exit out of the print returns tab and print the returns from the print your own copy.
What's great about it: Individual Tax was easy
What's not so great: Corporate tax didn't import Quickbooks Online

Easy as Pie

I have used TurboTax for many years because it is so easy to understand, follow and complete. Help is always available and the program checks my work rather than me. I just read to make sure it is what I intended and sign. What else can you ask for.
What's great about it: Easily understood and completed
What's not so great: Cannot think of any right now

Form 1120S S Corporation Filing
on April 9, 2019
Posted by: 4Tom6
Overall an easily used program, however, when reviewing and correcting errors on the forms which were identified by the program, specifically the incorporation date, I kept getting the message that the date of forming the S Corporation was different than the tax year and was unable to use the incorporation and election date, causing me to have to mail the return to both federal and state agencies. My LLC was formed in June 2018 and I elected the S Corporation election date as the same date as forming my LLC, choosing the calendar year as my tax year versus a fiscal year.
What's great about it: Good walk-through, easily understood and manageable program.
What's not so great: Correcting preceived errors
Pros: I moved

TT Business 2018
on April 9, 2019

It would be great if the Business software could support the stock gain/loss importing feature, as well as the instant display of tax owes feature found in all cheaper TT software versions.
for 2018 Business, it only notifies users that CA cannot be filed electronically in one place in one sentence: "the following return cannot be filed electronically. - California". No instruction, nor any guidance or reminder in the UI to help users to file CA return before announcing returns have been efiled successfully, and directing the users to exit the program. This inefficiency may lead many users not filing CA Business return for 2018.
What's great about it: Handles 1041
What's not so great: Lack of many convenient features available in Deluxe, Premier, Self-Employed versions while cost the most

Way better than paper & pencil

I have used Turbo Tax Business to create trust tax returns for a few years. It's not as easy as using the Turbo Tax programs for individuals - it assumes you have some tax background. This year I prepared a return for a Qualified Disability Trust. Why don't you have "Other" on the Trust Info screen, next to Simple, Complex and Grantor, instead of burying it on the Other screen in the Federal Taxes section?
What's great about it: Creates all the necessary forms
What's not so great: Other types of trusts are buried too deep
