Not great Virginia State Tax Return
on March 31, 2019
Posted by: Frank871
Turbo Tax always falls short with Commonwealth of Virginia income tax returns. The fiduciary return is no exception.
It calculated my late payment penalty, but I could not locate instructions on the website and how to remit my payment.
What's not so great: Did not give instructions for paying VA Taxes

Feedback/Comments Business Software

Your updates should provide individual with the detail on what the update entailed. Don't just send the individual to the Community where it is impossible to obtain the information. Your program should more easily allow attachments to be added to the tax return. Completed e-filing the federal return. The program could not e-file the state return, but the program does not provide a process to print and file the state return. You should provide a technical service telephone number for tax return software problems.

Turbo Tax Business

While completing my returns I had to attach additional scanned documents. The functionality doesn't allow users to easily add & remove attachments. In my case I wasn't able to remove a duplicate attachment and therefore had to file by mail.
What's great about it: Straightforward way to complete tax returns
What's not so great: Add'l features like adding / removing attachments lacking
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Still the Stepchild: TurboTax for Business"
on March 31, 2019

I've been using Turbo Tax for business for a decade! But there are still some things that they have not addressed in over 10-years (as far as I can tell) .
When I first started using the application I commented that handling the Estate Tax deduction on Line 19 of the 1041 - didn't seem to -work or flow correctly.... 10-years later.... Nothing has been done!
I cannot seem to add this in other deductions and get it to show up on Line 19! I put it manually.... an it shows up on the 1041.... but it does not flow to the K-1s!!! So I manually add it there... But the calculations don't change...
Hope I am doing it right.. Surprised that this item hasn't been fixed in 10-years. But I must be the only one it effects. Or Maybe I just use the program wrong!
Great tool.... but beware the details!
What's great about it: Really Helpful
What's not so great: Some Things do not Flow

First time Trust Filing

This customer did not provide a text review.
What's great about it: It was enough to get the job done. Much lower cost than CPA
What's not so great: Wasn't as clear cut to use as the individual filing process is. But this was my first time trust filing job.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Trust Account

I do a tax return for my nephews college trust each year. The only TurboTax product that can handle a trust is the business version. Very expensive when all you are doing is a trust. Took me 25 minutes to do the return, but cost me $184.
I do my personal taxes with TurboTax. It is very difficult to get to the business version as your program keeps redirecting me away from the business version and back to the version for my personal taxes.
What's great about it: Very Quick
What's not so great: Very Expensive

When I entered the shareholders info it said that I had changed ownership, then when I went back and deleted the added shareholders, it said that I hadn't entered my shareholder info. I had to add them when I finished the return in the Forms section that was blank.
What's not so great: shareholders section

To be honest with you, I wouldn't have purchased your TurboTax Business software to complete my 1041 Simple Trust tax return if I had known you didn't offer the State of Indiana IT-41 tax return as well. Now I have to hire a tax account to complete the IT-41. I would have just hired them to complete both the 1041 and IT-41 if I had known this before making the purchase. Maybe you should have a better screening process asking better questions prior to a purchase being made. While I do like the Federal version for completing the 1041, not having the State of Indiana IT-41 available is very disappointing. Thank you.
What's great about it: Input fields very accurate
What's not so great: Program crashed twice and I lost all my unsaved input. Did not offer a State of Indiana IT-41.
Pros: I bought or sold investments
