Simple LLC Filing... Not So Simple
on March 11, 2019

I've been using Turbo Tax for my complicated personal taxes for a few years. Just started a LLC in late 2018 with start up costs, initial capitalization and a bank fee, that's it. Zero income. Balance Sheet didn't balance, took while and call to the excellent TT CPA Advisor (free) who said I needed to offset the start up costs with Retained Earnings (liability) to put them in balance. Help and Googling did not give me an answer; I had to call. At least I filed, and am somewhat confident.
What's great about it: Easier than pen and paper
What's not so great: Still need CPA or tax advice

I may have to give up on TurboTax soon

I have been using the personal version of Turbo Tax since it first came out. Ten years ago we started a business and realized I needed an accountant to help me out, but then I realized too many things were getting missed so decided to try do use turbo tax and handle it on my own. The first couple of years it was fairly straight forward. I was using quickbooks software and it integrated nicely, then I started using the online version of quickbooks and it has just been getting worse ever since. Not only is the manual entry I have to do a real pain, but as the years have gone by I realize that there are things I have been doing wrong because the "step by step" feature leaves way too many assumptions that it does not really ask about in place. Yes, it is still better than nothing, but the reality is that if you not pay attention and assume the software is doing it right, you are just setting yourself up for disappointment down the line. I know many of its flaws, which allows me to pick up on some of the new ones as situations arise that I need to question. I end up with what I believe to be a good return using this program, but it is not because the program walked me through it. It is more like it fought me through it.
What's great about it: Some old info comes in automatically
What's not so great: Does not integrate with QBO

Software is relatively easy to walk through, however after doing an update to the software it completely deleted my return and I had to start over from scratch. There is no Mac version of this particular software and that is really inconvient for this day and age.
What's great about it: Fairly easy
What's not so great: Completly deleted my return and no Mac version

2018 Turbo Tax Review

The program was very easy to follow and use. However, the auto transfer from Quickbooks did not pick up correct information. This forced me to double-check all transferred information and make manual input changes.
What's great about it: Easy, step-by-step process
What's not so great: Auto Transfer of information from QuickBooks was not accurate

What is the purpose of buying a tax software that only does half of your taxes. I ended up having to go to an accountant to get my state taxes done anyway. Do you know what it is like trying to get an accountant to look at and do your taxes one week before they are doing and saying to them. Gee I already did the federal I want you to do my state base on what turbo tax came up with for my federal? I guess I will just go to the accountant for everything from now on! It would have been nice to know that they did not have the state software before I bought this software!
What's great about it: Federal was easy
What's not so great: No state software for my business

Really?!!!!!! All these years and I STILL have to borrow my father's Windows computer to do my taxes! You offer a LLC version for Mac but not Corp? If I ever find a Mac alternative I'll jump ship from TurboTax. You guys need to get it together. There are many of us Mac users who need this. Get it done!
What's not so great: No Mac version!
