Little improvement year to year
on March 22, 2019
Posted by: SurveyGuy
Year after year TurboTax Business fails to make improvements to trust features. Does not show tax as you enter data, making it difficult to analyze how to minimize tax by managing distributions. No way to interface with TurboTax individual for same purpose. No SC state - why do I have to pay full price??? Guidance on basic steps is lacking (like allocation of capital gains).
What's great about it: Prepares my trust taxes
What's not so great: Lacks important features

Unable to efile
on March 23, 2019

I have used the tool for years, but I am very disappointed with my last experience. Every time I tried to submit my efile, I got an error stating I had to update. I updated, but still received the same error. I reinstalled, updated, manually updated, etc, waste a lot of time and suddenly 10 days later it worked. I believe, the error was misleading asking me to do something and making me waste my time, but the problem was on Intuit's server. They should have told me to try later instead of asking me to reinstall and re update, which was just wasting my time and was not going to solve the problem. Very disappointing.
What's great about it: Remembers your data from last year, so less typing.
What's not so great: Confusing error

TurboTax Business

The product is very useful in helping to fill out forms, but for just doing individual trust returns, it is expensive to have to buy all of the business tax forms too. Also, this year, the state forms were much later than usual and there were issues when the program allowed you to pay for the state forms before they were really available.
What's great about it: Good Coverage of Trust Forms
What's not so great: Expensive and late availability of forms.

Turbotax makes compiling and preparing the filing as easy as it can be.
What's great about it: Ease of entering the expenses
What's not so great: Not sure what to do on some of the fill in the blanks areas.

Very poor quality software

Intuit has not invrsted in this version of TurboTax, it is about the same as a 15 year old version of TurboTax Home. It makes you repeat entries all over the place, it makes you go find forms on the internet instead of stepping you through them, etc. To add insult, it cost $169 + $59 for state! Come on Intuit, do better

As far as I am concerned the WSJ couldn't explain QBI in a full article. God Help You if you follow the TTax Hint that most USA business income is QBI and check off the YES box!
Another thing: If you ever choose to do special partner distribution ratios in contradiction to the ownership %, do not tell TTax about it. I don't know how you would ever get TTax to go back to the normal distributions.
Don't get me wrong: TTAX BUSINESS; 1065: GREAT PRODUCT!!
What's great about it: 99.999% EXCELLENT
What's not so great: QUALIFIED BUSINESS INCOME!!

Second review - lower star

As I wrote earlier the software seems to be getting less helpful and harder to follow where the numbers are coming from. Last year it seemed to walk me through step by step and I understood this year numbers did not populate in some boxes and I had to go on a search to find them. Also when I had a question one "expert" answered one way but the answer just didn't seem correct to me but I wanted to get the return done because it was saying I was being fined for estimating enough taxes. So I questioned another "expert" using the same language and their answer was different but made sense. Of course this meant I needed to amend the first return which you can't do through TurboTax Business.

No Personal Tax Support
on May 4, 2020

Buyer beware - most turbotax products are additive - meaning they include all the features of the cheaper level products. This product only supports businesses and trusts though, you cannot also use it to file personal taxes. Shame on me for not reading all the fine print, but this was an unpleasant surprise to me.
