Poor NYS Support
on March 16, 2019
Posted by: DEMMEL
The Federal part of this product was great, however TurboTax did not release the NYS S Corp option until 3 days before it was due, with am estimated release date of the actual due date. It also charged the $50 for the NYS option and then failed to download or run the feature for over a month. I will not be using the Business product next year.
What's great about it: Federal works great
What's not so great: Awful NYS S Corp Support

Product not nearly complete when purchased in Jan. Many forms missing or incomplete. State forms not there. No good indication when they may be ready. At this point don't know if it is safe to email taxes or are there other changes that will be made.
What's great about it: Easy to you
What's not so great: took for ever to update forms many were not ready until march.

There is a bug
on March 16, 2019
Posted by: Juanito1946
After e-filing Fed form, the program apparently figured we were done, ready to exit without printing the state form.
What's great about it: Feels familiar, no unnecessary changes
What's not so great: No prompt to file state return

Kind of buggy

I had to buy this to file for an estate. Things were pretty good until I got to the state. It hung at various points as I tried to purchase the state license. Finally I finished, and it hung when trying to download. (Still spinning an hour later.) I killed TT but then I couldn't start it again ... code 70001 but an error message about another login. I had to reboot.
What's not so great: numerous issues

No Import from Brokerage Feature!
on March 17, 2019

Inadequate:
1. Does NOT include import of data from financial institutions.
2. OID's [Original Issue Discounts] require manual input, labeling, and description. There should be specific questions and opportunity to type in OID numbers. As is, you require I squeeze it in under additional income. Many don't know it's categorized as income.
3. Does not allow saving tax return versions with & without all worksheets. I wanted to save a pdf with and another without all worksheets/calculations.
4. Very expensive. I just needed a version that does Trusts. I have to file a 1041 tax return for a small value trust for a low income individual and the software is triple the price of your 1040 Deluxe.
What's great about it: Prepares K-1s
What's not so great: No Import from Brokerage Feature!

1065 Complete in Record Time (again)
on March 19, 2019

Once again, TurboTax made my tax LLC reporting quick and easy to do. Since I subscribe to the program, I always get the software as soon as it is released and sometimes have to wait to complete it due to government slowness with some forms. Thanks, Intuit and TurboTax, for making my business filing easy!
What's great about it: Easy to follow guidelines
What's not so great: SoS business number wasn't copied from last (2017) form

Mission Accomplished

As Administrator of my brothers estate after paying an insane amount to file taxes last year I figured I would try Turbo Tax business for this years estate fiduciary return. He died intestate and had co-owners on some assets so honestly the return was somewhat of an anomaly to begin with. I use Turbo Tax Personal for my own taxes and find it much more intuitive and easier. I did however manage to muddle through the Estate taxes and sent to the IRS.
What's great about it: guides you through the form, cheaper than a professional
What's not so great: Not as intuitively programed as the Personal Edition

trusts and Turbotax for Business
on March 20, 2019

I felt the process for filing for my trust this year was much smoother. Some of that was my familiarity but the step by step was clearer too.
Nonetheless, I had two issues. First, after the review said all was ok, there was a question that only popped up when I went to file electronically. Form 1116, line 3 b was blank and I was prompted for an explanation of that entry. After going back through the steps and not finding any prompt for such an explanation, I gave it my best shot. Secondly, this was my final filing for the trust which has been closed out. I expected to be able to address that in the step by step but it never came up. Only when I was looking over the forms after filing did I see that there is a box to check at the top of the form K-1 to indicate it is the final one. Shouldn't that be one of the steps?
What's great about it: seemed smoother than last year
What's not so great: still a couple issues that should be automated
