Needed to attach tax 1041 form, signature form 8453 page and copy of 1099 statement. Was told from online forum "cannot upload more than one file. If 8453 and 1099 are separate PDFs, will not be able to attach both forms. Can combine 8453 and 1099 into one file and then upload that file as an attachment and e-file. However, will need PDF software that supports merging (inserting) forms from one PDF into another." Turbo did not make this clear so I had to purchase a trial Adobe subscription to combine the files. Next year, Turbo should allow 3 or 4 files to be attached with 1041or any return that customer wants to send pdf of 1099 so all the transactions do not need to be hand written. I have been helping my wife file her Family Trust taxes for 15 years. This is the first year Trust taxes were able to be e-filed with the backup. Please continue to improve the product.
What's great about it: Turbo is a great product. Easy to use Am a return customer for 17 years
What's not so great: The business edition needs further modifciations

1041 For Trust
on March 11, 2019
Posted by: JoeRC1234
Purchased when the accountant provided a turn time for the trust that would not leave much time for those getting a K1 to file. This did the job this year because minimal income; however that increases next year and I don't have confidence to use the software at that time.
What's great about it: More convienent that trying to find someone to complete
What's not so great: Didn't leave me with confidence to use when the income of the trust increases. Didn't support NC state return.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Front loader when a beach shovel would do

This software needs to have a simplified version for small, passive partnerships and for 1 person trusts. The pricing is extravagant, especially for State versions. It is not clear how to reuse State version for multiple trusts or LLCs without multiple payments and downloads. This 1065 software does not offer the same quality and clarity of the 1040 software.
What's great about it: Easy to work on what I want
What's not so great: Cost for trusts and passive LLPs/LLCs
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Another Year, Another 500 page return
on March 13, 2019

I have prepared a 500+ page tax return with 60 or more K-1's for the last nine years. Turbo Tax Business has been consistent and easy to use. Despite a few minor glitches that I would like to see corrected (they just cause me additional work in completing the return), I enjoy and will continue to use the program. I would recommend the Business version.
What's great about it: Consistent from year to year
What's not so great: Minor glitches have not been updated
Pros: I bought or sold investments

What's great about it: This helped me file quicker than by hand.
What's not so great: Extra $60 for the state? Screw that.

Same product for the last 23 years

TurboTax annoys the heck out of me and every year I hope they'll fix simple usage issues and every year I'm disappointed. This year is no different. If I didn't have 23 years of previous tax returns in TurboTax I'd switch to a competitor for sure.
For example, this year we had a change of address. TT asked if we changed address (nice). I answered yes. TT asked for the new address (nice). I typed it in. TT then asked if the new address was the old address (huh, no it's the new address). TT then asked if the new is the new address (duh, yes...you already knew that why did you ask). Then TT says you need to file form 8822-B. TT then asked for my new address (um, I already not only typed that in but I also confirmed it). TT then asked for my old address (which it had previously imported from last year's return to ask me if this was still the address...so why didn't it at least default the answer to that address?).
Another example, they ask if we've ever been a C Corp (we're an S Corp). I answer no. Later it asks if we had any dividend distributions. No, you can only have those if you were once a C Corp...so don't ask. There was another section that I clicked into (but don't remember which one) that wasn't relevant for an S Corp that was never a C.
It's little usage annoyances like this that have plagued TT for decades. It's maddening that they don't fix things like this.
What's great about it: UI doesn't change
What's not so great: Program hasn't evolved for at least 23 years

Same Old TurboTax

TurboTax Business (1065) software is a 95% solution for federal taxes and ~70% solution for state (Virginia) taxes
QB import function exemplifies ambiguity, in that questions about the data are unclear and imply the data has already been downloaded, only to learn otherwise several screens later
amending process is confusing and erroneous, such as...
- instructions to save old file under a new name, only to learn later that name carries to the amended file
- instructions to go various places and do various things that don't make sense, don't yield the desired result, and end up requiring users to repeat the process multiple times in an attempt to learn how to circumvent the flaws
- failure to mark the amended 1065 as Amended
- failure to mark amended VK-1s as Amended
- failure to mark VK-1s as non-resident for non-residents
Intuit's software developers should try to read & follow the software instructions, then repair the language or linkages to make the process more ergonomic, or perhaps one might say more intuitive
What's great about it: imbedded forms
What's not so great: ambiguous / errant step-by-step instructions

Experience was just OK this year

I got into a situation where I was looking at balance sheet entries. The TurboTax Business version did not make it easy for me. My lack of accounting terminology did not help, but I spent an inordinate amount of time for what should have been a simple task.
