LOUD compressor. Wakes me up at night.

Nice refrigerator, however the LOUD compressor is horrible. It woke me up at night.
Old GE ran quietly this is awful because of the noise.
I would not reccomend this unit, unless it out in the garage

Hi MsWest - Thank you for your purchase! We're so sorry for any inconvenience with the sound level. Modern refrigerators have new features and are more energy efficient than older ones. The foam insulation used in new models has excellent insulating capabilities and is very energy efficient, however, it is not as sound absorbent as previously used fiberglass insulation.
Depending on the placement of the refrigerator in your kitchen, you may want to place a piece of rubber backed carpet beneath the refrigerator to help reduce the sounds. We hope you find this helpful. Thanks for choosing GE Appliances! - Sharon@GEA

Great price, but it's SO noisy!!

I loved that I could buy a full size GE fridge in the color/size/style I wanted for such an inexpensive price.
I would have given it 5 stars if it wasn't so VERY loud, which I've been told is typical of newer energy-saving models.

Nice clean look

This unit feels like it was a smart buy for us. The deep shelves in the door make up for there only being two of them. The space for tall bottles right inside the door is handy for a quick grab of those items. The shelves feel sturdy and the divided veggie bin will make for easier cleaning. I'm not a fan of textured finishes on appliances though this cleaned up easily when trying to remove residue left by packing tape. It seems to be louder than my previous unit though it may just be getting accustomed to a different sound.

Excellent, basic fridge

We purchased this unit to replace a much older model that we acquired used. It fits well in the space that we planned, keeps all our food cold or frozen, and uses less energy than the old model. We are extremely satisfied.

This refrigerator works well. It isn't as cold as our previous Frigidaire- the freezer in this GE refrigerator doesn't make the ice cream turn solid - it maintains the cold and correct consistency. This GE refrigerator section isn't quite as cold as our previous Frigidaire, but it works well.

Refrigerator is loud, but has great features

We purchased this refrigerator for our cabin in the mountains. We were very limited to choices as the refrigerator had to fit under some cabinets. We hauled the refrigerator to our cabin. Plug it and and was shocked at how loud it was. Thought I'd give it 24 hours to "adjust". The noise did not change. The bedroom is near the kitchen and you can hear the refrigerator from the bedroom.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
