Noisy

Freezer has back panel that makes a vibration noise. The noise was so bad in the first refrigerator that I got, I requested a replacement of the appliance. The delivery person said it was "defective". This second one is quieter, but I wonder if the noise will increase over time.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Had High Hopes

This refrigerator replaced a 20 year of GE that was great. This one is poorly designed and the only reason I'm keeping it is because nothing else will fit in the space. Pros - It fits into the space and it works but not great. Con's - It's loud, when the compressor shuts off your the tension leaves your body. The recessed handles get dirty quickly, are hard to clean and you can't have long nails and open this refrigerator. The wire shelves are flimsy and I'm afraid to put anything heavy on them for fear they'll bend and snap. The humidity in the refrigerator is very low below 20 degrees according to GE it should be higher. I had to fill the freezer with ice cubes to get it cold enough on the recommended setting. I would love to get glass shelves and figure out a way to put handles on it, but the noise will never subside. If you're going to put this in a garage fine but other then that stay away.

Does Not Cool Properly On Consistent Basis

This unit only has a single control switch that supposedly adjusts the temperature in both the refrigerated section and the freezer section. The temperature is not consistent and ranges from 30.2°F to 38.6°F in the refrigerator section and -2.6°F to +6.8°F in the freezer section – this is when set on the # 4 setting (5 is coldest). I've used five different thermometers to measure these temperatures and they all give essentially the same poor results. The variations are just as erratic on the #3 or #5 settings. Cannot trust this unit to properly hold a desired freezer temperature of at least 0°F or a temperature in the refrigerator that does not go to below 32°F while trying to keep the freezer cold enough. BIG MISTAKE to purchase this unit!

Great second refrigerator

I bought this for use in my garage to replace a 25 year old dying one. The old one was 18.5 cubic feet but this smaller size fits better. The recessed handles are a plus in that it reduces the depth by several inches. The freezer keeps a constant -5 degrees (F) when set at GE's recommended temp setting. The low price tag also makes this a winner.

Pefect Refrigerator of Our Home

We previously owned a 10 year old 18 cubic foot GE refrigerator that had been an excellent refrigerator, in fact it still worked fine. But over the years there were some dents on the front of the door and some interior pieces that had broken. So we decided after much research to replace it with this 15.5 cubic foot GE. We choose this specific model because I prefer wire shelves over glass. I think that the air circulates better and the food cools more quickly. I ordered an extra shelf and kept the snack drawer from the old GE. I placed the snack drawer on a shelf and it actually is more convenient this way. With the third shelf there is just as much storage room and maybe even more than I had in the 18 cubic foot GE. Within 2 hours after the new refrigerator was plugged in the food storage compartment was already cooled to 35 degrees and the freezer was at 0 degrees. I really love this refrigerator. We have a small kitchen and I didn't want a big box sticking out into the kitchen and with the recessed handles it has a sleek appearance.

Perfect second frig.

Having a big family, it helps to have a second frig, especially when we have family get togethers for varying occasions. Our original second frig gave out and we were in a pinch needing to find a reasonably affordable replacement without losing out on storage space. In our hunt we came across the GE 156 Cu Ft Frost Free Top Freezer Refrigerator. We were surprised to find that this GE despite having an overall size that is slightly smaller than the other manufactures model we had, the interior is actually more spacious than what we had. Compared to other similar models of varying manufactures, the price was right on this GE. We didn’t get the ice maker feature as we didn’t need it, but having the ability to order a kit which we saw is easy to install, is nice. The unit runs quiet with a strong cooling system that definitely does a great job of keeping things cold and or frozen.
I would recommend this to a friend!
