7 Years and Still Doing A Great Job

This is my second GE 1HP Disposal Unit. I purchased my first 7 years ago and it is still working perfiectly with no issues or service calls. I just completed finishing our basement including a kitchenette whch now has the new GE 1 HP continous feed disposal unit attached to the kitchenette sink. Thank you for a great product.

Easy install

Bought this a month ago and I am pleased with it. Took 3 weeks to deliver though. That is my only complaint so far.

I installed by myself today. It is hard to mount -I had to prop it up in place inorder to turn locking ring. Very heavy to hold by self and turn or even with two people. Neother of which worked. Propping it up in place worked great. I used an inverted tea pitcher. Plastic casing tends to turn while installing, but easily fixed.
Very strong, chopped up watermelon rind and old dried out hamberger patty. Does not have a key to unlock (just incase), but features a reset buttong instead which is suppose to do the same thing. My old had a key and only used twice in 10 years, so may never be an issue. 2 stage grinder should prevent pipe clogs that I had happen a few times in my old model. Removable splash gaurd in nice feature.
Much quieter than my previous insinkerator badger 5. I saw the reivews about being noisy, but compared to my previous one (and my mothers) it is much quieter. I don't expect silence when considering it intended job. For only 1 day use it has been great.

This is my second one. I burned out the 1st one after 4 years or so probably because I was so accustomed to its incredible speed and power that I really stuffed down to much stuff to quickly. Oh well.

I replaced my builders grade disposer with this big, heavy duty, G.E. I don't find the new one grinding up waste any faster or better than the cheap builders grade. It's loud, takes up a lot of room under the sink and I wouldn't buy it again.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We had this 1 HP model in two houses. It lasts forever and it takes all sorts of food.

Powerful grinder

Like so many others said in their reviews, I bought this unit because it was the top rated continuous feed disposer on Consumer Reports. It’s bigger than my old unit so I had to make some adjustments to the piping under the sink, but installation wasn’t too difficult. The hardest part was removing the old sink flange, which was secured with putty. I hoped it would be quieter considering the price range, but it’s no louder than my old 1/2 hp disposer. It’s very powerful - we call it “The Beast”! I tried to reach inside to see if any of the thick lime peels were left behind, but it’s designed to be too small to fit your hand inside. Luckily it’s strong enough that it ground up everything I put in it.

Poor performance

I have been in this house for just over two years. In that space of time, I have had 3 garbage disposals. Not a good track record
