Great performance, delicate parts

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We bought this refrigerator about a month ago. We are very pleased with its performance, the ice and water dispencer are great. We have only 2 concerns. The drawers seem a bit too delicate, as though they may crack easily and not go the distance. Also the exterior of the appliance scratches and dents very easily. Ours was dinged and scuffed by a simple magnet within 2 days of installation.

Cool but Wet

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have always been pleased with Kitchen Aid appliances. Our new refrigerator cools fine, but, condensation in both the refrigerator and freezer makes food slippery and wet. I was on the phone with a Kitchen Aid representative for about 45 minutes and I have had 2 technicians look at it. The 2nd technician explained that the systems have changed, and that this is the new normal. Quite frankly, I am a bit disappointed.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We apologize for the concerns that you are experiencing with your Refrigerator. Condensation or excessive moisture buildup in the fresh food section of a side-by-side refrigerator is a common issue that can often be resolved with simple troubleshooting steps. This moisture typically results from warm, humid air entering the cool environment of the refrigerator and condensing, or from issues preventing proper airflow and sealing. Below are detailed causes and corresponding solutions.I. External Factors: Door Usage and Room Humidity The most frequent source of moisture is the intrusion of humid ambient air when the refrigerator door is opened .A. Are the Doors Left Open for Extended Periods? Cause: Leaving the refrigerator or freezer door ajar for a long time allows a significant volume of humid air to enter the appliance. This moisture quickly turns to frost or ice in the colder freezer section, or condenses as water droplets in the refrigerator section, especially if the air is hot and humid. Solution: Ensure Complete Closure: Always verify that the door is completely closed after use. Remove Obstructions: Inspect the area between the door gasket and the cabinet to ensure no food packaging, containers, or stored items are blocking the door from sealing tightly. B. Are the Doors Opened Too Frequently? Cause: Frequent door openings, even brief ones, continuously introduce small amounts of humid room air. This effect is compounded during peak usage times, such as meal preparation or large family gatherings. Solution: Minimize Openings: Encourage all household members to retrieve multiple items at once to reduce the frequency and duration of door openings. High Humidity Awareness: Recognize that during periods of high ambient humidity (e.g., summer months, especially in non-air-conditioned homes), it is normal and expected to observe some level of condensation ("sweating") on interior walls, shelves, or food packaging. This is generally not a sign of a malfunction unless it becomes excessive or freezes into significant ice buildup. II. Sealing and Gasket Integrity Issues A defective or obstructed door seal is a direct pathway for humid air to continually leak into the refrigerator cabinet. C. Are the Doors Sealing Correctly? Cause: An improper or compromised seal on the refrigerator or freezer door gaskets allows warm, humid air to constantly infiltrate the cool interior, leading to continuous condensation and frost formation. A compromised seal can be caused by tears, rigidity due to age, or debris accumulation. Solution: Inspect and Clean Gaskets: Carefully examine the entire perimeter of the gaskets on both the refrigerator and freezer doors. Look for cracks, tears, or signs of deformation. Check for Obstruction: Clean the gasket surfaces thoroughly with mild soap and water to remove any sticky residue, food crumbs, or grease that might be preventing a complete seal. Perform the "Paper Test": Close the door on a thin piece of paper. If you can easily pull the paper out, the seal is weak at that spot. Repeat this test in several locations around the door. If multiple spots fail, the gasket may need adjustment or replacement. III. Internal Airflow and Leveling Issues The proper functioning of a refrigerator relies on unimpeded air circulation and a level installation. D. Are the Air Vents Blocked? Cause: The appliance relies on vents to circulate cool air from the freezer section into the fresh food (refrigerator) section. Blocked vents—often by bulky food items, bags, or stacked containers—inhibit this crucial air exchange. This blockage can result in warm spots, moisture buildup, or excessive frost in the compartments. Solution: Ensure Adequate Spacing: Rearrange items to ensure clear passage for airflow. Do not place packages directly against the rear panel, particularly where the air inlet and outlet vents are located. Locate Vents: Identify the location of the air vents (which vary by model—often on the back wall, ceiling, or partition between the compartments) and ensure a few inches of space is maintained around them. Resource Reference: Consult external resources, such as the provided link, for detailed, model-specific guidance on checking and maintaining unobstructed air vents to ensure proper air flow between compartments. E. Is the Refrigerator Level and Stable? Cause: A refrigerator that is not level can cause several operational problems, including the doors not closing and sealing correctly on their own, or the internal drainage system not functioning optimally. Even a slight tilt can compromise the door seal integrity. Solution: Verify Installation: Confirm that the refrigerator is sitting on a stable and level floor. Adjust Leveling Legs/Rollers: Use the adjustable front rollers or leveling legs (refer to your specific Owner's Manual or Installation Instructions) to ensure the appliance is level from side to side and slightly elevated in the front (a slight "nose-up" tilt can help the doors swing shut more easily). Use Shims (If Necessary): If the floor itself is significantly uneven, the use of sturdy shims beneath the appliance feet or rollers may be required to achieve a proper level. Digital Leveling Assistance: Modern technology, such as using a smartphone's level application, can provide a quick and accurate assessment of the appliance's levelness. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Really like the lighting inside, easy to organize food, like the ice container being clear, the doors feel solid when they close, and like the measured water dispenser-though not sure how accurate it is. Wish the produce drawers felt more sturdy.

Worst fridge I have ever had.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is my second Kitchenaid fridge. The first lasted 15 years and had minor issues with internal shelves and drawers that could no longer be fixed because parts were obsolete. The worst issue I had was the icemaker that had to be replaced once. I was happy enough with the first to get the replacement model, which was this model. The internal drawers and shelves are not the same quality as the first fridge, but I was told this was the highest end side by side so I bought it. Day 1: the light switch in the freezer was not fully installed. Thought it would pop in, no go, had to call service dept to repair. Day 45-90: Would find small puddles of water in front of fridge Assumed they were spills or dropped ice cubes from family until large puddles started forming. Called service dept. The condensate drain was clogged with insulation. 6 months: The ice cube dispense motor broke. Called service, replace motor and ice cube tray. 9 months: The icecube dispenser broke again, this time it was both the motor and dispener. Called service, was told that that I only had 6 month warranty and I would need to pay for service. To this point I always contacted the company I purchased it from and they would set up the service appointments. A service appointement was set up, I received phone and email confirmation, no one cam or called. I called and emailed several times before someone finally came close to 1.5 months later. Now the plan is to replace the entire freezer door. What to do? I was told that it will be 8-12 weeks to get part and then after it is replace the warranty on the icemaker is done. I have little confidence in this fridge and my next step will be to get rid of it when the next issue comes and buy something different.

Does what it's supposed to

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] While this refirgerator/freezer seems to be pretty good, I would take another look at how you prepare them for shipping. It took forever to get all of the sticky tape off all of the shelves, baskets, doors, etc. The shrink wrap was also difficult to remove. It is much smaller than the refrigerator/freezer I had before, which I expected, but it takes getting used to.
