This Gate is a parent's dream!

I cannot stress how easy this gate is to install! As a parent, trying to figure out what gate would work out best in our home was a job in itself. Once we realized that our toddler was very independent when it came to stairs, we knew we needed to make some decisions. Since this is our second child (and much more active than our first), we did a lot of research on a gate for Top of the Stairs (needs to be a hardware mount) and ease of installation because NO PARENT HAS HOURS TO INSTALL A PRODUCT. You literally pull the gate out of the box, open the locks at the top, slide the gate open to the size of your staircase (or opening), tighten the screws (the screws are amazing! They look like wall dog screws), lock the gate and you are done. It literally took 7 minutes. The gate is so sturdy and it was one of the best purchases I have made so far in parenthood. Time is money now a days!

Worst baby gate ever

This gate really really sucks. It's VERY hard to open on your own, nevermind while holding a baby. The latch seems to come out of the hole on its own??? I don't know who designed this but they should be fired. I regret spending the last hour screwing it into my wall.

Not a Self Closing Gate

Nicely constructed, but all child gates should be self closing. All it takes is one time someone forgets to close the gate and it's an accident waiting to happen.

Disappointment.

There is too much play in the plastic hinges. As soon as the blocks were removed and the door opened for the first time the weight of the door made the latch side sag and not line up. Easy to install, annoying to use.

Product is unsafe

Installed product per manufacturer's instructions. The issue we are having with ours is that the clamps that set the width do not hold position properly. Our gate popped open when our 1 y/o pushed on it. Fortunately I was there and caught her. Upon inspection of the gate I found the lower clamps had allowed the gates bottom latch to become disengaged. I re-adjusted the gate and opened it and closed it a few times and once again found that the bottom latch was out of adjustment. This design is going to kill a child, the latches are clearly poorly designed (I am a design engineer who designs machines and safety guarding) and I even recall making a comment to my wife that I didn't like the locking mechanism. I've since retrofitted my gate so it is no longer adjustable. Again do not buy, this gate will kill a child some day. Keep your children safe. Had the incident happened at work we would have had to file a near miss report with OSHA for a potentially fatal event.

Buy this only if you want to damage your house

Nothing about this gate works. The cheap, flimsy rail locking devices don't lock the rails together at all, too weak to provide function or safety so the gate does not line up well or even latch well. Now I have to remove it, return it, buy something else and patch up the holes in my walls. Really regret buying this product.

Great gate!!

We are grandparents and this gate is fantastic for us. We have the safety we need - when we need it and we can lift and remove the gate when not required for long periods. It is sleek, sturdy, light weight and we love the grey colour! We are fans of most every Safety 1st product, we have many. Thank you for making quality products with common sense features that are stylish!

Good but needs a version 2.0

So this seems like an awesome gate. I absolutely love the concept of just placing it and attaching it, other manufacturers should be on notice. I also love the fact that it attaches ABOVE base and molding. The only things I have to say is that 1: when you follow all the directions in order, which are super easy, the gate, mine, doesn't match up with the jamb. There is a little sag in the gate so in order to get it to latch you have to lift up. I'll be dropping the latch side to match, which will put visible holes in my wall that I'll need to fill and paint. I think it would help if there was at least some sort of adjustment up and down, maybe with a screw, 2: that the wing that swings out to prevent it from swinging over the stairs is super easy to move, like a kid could do it accidentally. I'll be adding a set screw to this part so it won't be possible, and 3: it's minor but some trim that snaps onto cover the screws would be nice. Even with these issues tho I won't be returning it as I think in the future I can mitigate these problems and overall they are minor compared to the ease of installation and quality. I'll prob need four more.
