Set up frustrating

Frustrated to no end setting up. After going through some of the initialization it said it was going to check for updates and it would take a few minutes. The FIRST update lasted 50 minutes. Then it went to a black screen that said it would automatically restart. After about 3 minutes it shut off for about a minute, restarted and immediately went into "checking for updates". This "update" lasted only 5 minutes. Back to the black screen and waited, then shut down and restarted. Immediately went to checking for updates the third time which lasted 15 minutes for this update. Thankfully that was the last update. So the "few minutes" lasted almost 90 before it went to actually starting up the set. After going through all the set up stuff I still have not determined if I can get the controller to recognize the cable box to change channels. Have found nothing in the users manual addressing this topic. Picture quality is great looking straight-on to the screen. Everything is washed out as you move to the side.

Hello Bern, the television can take a few minutes, depending on your connection speed, to complete the firmware updates to make sure you have the latest firmware available and the latest features. The television remote is not universal so it would not be able to control your cable box channels unless it was connected using the coaxial tuner. Every tv I have in my house is a Vizio. I love them. I have one that's got to be over 12 years old. Never had a problem with it at all. It still works great.
