Archaic WiFi Protocall
on May 30, 2020
Posted by: OldWifi
This is likely my last purchase of a VIZIO TV. They insist on using an archaic WiFi protocall which requires you to set your router using WPA. The problem is, WPA is not secure and has been replace by WPA2 in 2004!! So VIZIO, you are only 16 years out of date, and this is a new TV! This WiFi setup must be done in your router, which means, it makes your whole network insecure! This is unacceptable.

Hi OldWifi. We use a dual band 802.11ac wifi card in all of our 4K TV’s. We also support multiple security formats including WPA2. If you would like help connecting your TV to your home Wi-Fi using a different type of encryption we would be happy to help you. You can reach our award-winning customer support team by visiting support.vizio.com for help over phone, chat, and SMS.

Had to restart on the initial set-up

While setting up the TV, it connected easily to our wifi, however, it did not immediately show any channels. The set-up guide is on the TV, so with a blank screen, that was not much help. So after some google search videos, and finding the set-up manual on the website, we decided to reset the TV to manufactures settings and then "re-start" the TV. Once we did the second start up process, the TV worked like a charm. So if you get a blank screen, reset to manufacture settings and re-start it. The only downside I have with the TV is the remote buttons are small.

Need Over the air tv as a button on remote. And maybe the tv guide as a channel. Otherwise its been fun learning all the features. I like that if I go to bed and forget to turn off the tv I can do so from my phone app.

Free apps preloaded on the tv do not work with the soundbar. The speakers on the tv are pretty weak.
