The dock so far has worked flawlessly so far. This Dock has multiple ports available, allowing user to use multiple displays with great resolution. It is small and convenient. I'm using the dock with two 27" Dell HDMI monitors.

Simple and works

The hardest part was finding it in Dell's myriad offerings. But since you're here, you already managed that. The thing worked as advertised. One complaint: I failed to notice that it comes with a (non-removable) thunderbolt cable (to go to the PC). I bought another one and I didn't need to. Oops.

Dell Thunderbolt Dock: The Clydesdale of docking stations
on October 10, 2020

Having just replaced my laptop that I purchased in 2012 with a 2020 Dell XPS 15 laptop, I was truly surprised at the many changes made to the "docking station" over the years. There is very little that is the same with the new Thunderbolt Dock compared to the previous docking station I had been using. I use my laptop for business and after deciding to purchase the new XPS, I also decided to physically overhaul my office to streamline everything including the whole wiring setup for computers and peripherals. The Thunderbolt Dock made that process so much easier with its compactness and interconnectivity. I am thrilled with this Dock and highly recommend it for those anyone who use their laptops as their workhorse.

A little Cranky

I bought this in conjunction with a Dell XPS 13 laptop. It is not integrated with the laptop and connects through the generic Thunderbolt/USB-C port.
In general it works well but there are some quirks. When I bring the laptop back to my desk and plug it in it often takes a long time for Windows to recognize the non-disk and non-display peripherals (mouse, keyboard, webcam, dvdrw, etc). I find the operation of the power button on the dock to be non-intuitive. For a component so expensive I would expect smoother operation like the old Dell laptop hard docking stations, which worked exactly as one would expect and flawlessly.

Excellent dock. Works perfect with Dell XPS 15 9500. I use external monitor as an extended display and have no issues. I am a software developer so this is perfect!

Meh. Too few ports. Some bugs. But mostly ok

Meh. It's a dock. Not all that many ports - I could really use a few more USBC and USBA ports. There's also a firmware glitch that causes Ubuntu to fail its boot if you have a monitor plugged into the dock and the XPS13 screen is open and on.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hello Lem Shattuck,

We're sorry that your dock does not have as many ports as you would like it to have. You can always purchase an external USB port extension that will expand the number of available ports that you would be able to use.

If you have any technical questions about your computer you can check our Product Support Page here: https://dell.to/2Unqxdl.

Noisy fan. The laptop (7400) gives it some good company in that.
I use two QHD monitors and you need this model for that.
