Not the most useful ports for a dock...

They sort of work. But for the price, it needs more USB ports, and it would be really nice if it had HDMI ports not display port for video.

USB-C plug drags down an otherwise great dock

The dock looks sleek and impressive, and has plenty of ports - USB in particular. The one big down-side is the USB-C output cable - it has a flimsy connector and slight bumps to the dock, the cable or the attached laptop will result in the plug disconnecting.
While delivering laptop power directly is a nice benefit, eliminating one more power brick on the desk, the USB-C adapter design makes it fragile and unreliable.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
