This printer does duplex scan, but had lots of issues getting the HP software to install even though I had previous software for my previous printer which was an HP also this printer is a little noisy when you first start using it. After several uses though it does seem to quiet down a bit and so far I like it. A few drawbacks is that the screen is very small and since I have to read with a magnifier it is a little more difficult to use than previous models.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I hesitate to give 5 stars because the printer seemed to freeze up and wouldn't print and I couldn't shut it off so I had to unplug it and plug back in and then it worked. I hope it doesn't continue to do this.
