I bought this to replace my HP Officejet Pro 8600 series printer. The quality is okay although I miss the larger scanner plate of the 8600. I am disappointed that it was not emphasized that I could not use Instant Ink or other features without having Windows 10, even though the box says Windows 8 is still an option. So it does work on that and my Linux but just without using the 'HP Smart' package features. They could have let you download the prior drivers but they are in bed with Microsoft in just pushing you to upgrade. Getting questions answered by HP is a frustrating and generally pointless exercise and the built-in programming choices annoying. For example, the printhead went bad on my old machine but that made the entire product unusable instead of continuing to let me use it as a scanner or copier to my computer or emails. Now they are running me through all sort of garbage just to send this review. i.e. Wasting my time.
The printer and the printing functions were easy to set up and the printer works to expectations. The scanner function has been more difficult to navigate. I have been able to scan, but I need to spend some more time to get the controls to work with more ease. I believe it will do what I want, it will just take some more time figuring out all the set up.
This printer is OK ... not as great as the HP 8630 I had or the 8710 printer I have as my backup. I absolutely HATE the HP Printer Smart App. Prefer the full software download that gives me more control over my printing & scan to computer preferences. I also DO NOT LIKE the pressure to enroll in the Instant Ink program. I prefer to buy my ink as needed. This may cause me to make different decisions on future printer purchases.
The noisiest printer I have ever owned! It moans and groans and sounds like it is going to implode on itself. I haven't had a new printer in many years, I thought they would be much more quite and streamline. I was wrong
When I went to print the first page to check the set up the paper being fed by the underneath tray it got jammed and I have found no way of clearing it. Most frustrating!!!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hi, Chris.
I’m sorry your printer experienced a paper jam on its first use, and that you’ve been unable to clear it. Your frustration comes as no surprise here. I want to help you remove the paper that’s stuck and get the device working like it should, so I’ll suggest some resources I hope will make that happen.
First, I recommend going through the steps to clearing and avoiding paper jams that you’ll find in this troubleshooting guide on our support site: - support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06201289
If you need further assistance, I suggest you contact us directly so we can help you assess the situation and find the proper course of action. I'll also mention that HP printers have a one-year warranty from their purchase date that covers hardware as well as ink supplies – and that warranty extends to two years with an HP+ account – so if it comes to that, you might consider making use of it.
