Replaced my HP OfficeJet 8740 with this because checks were printing slightly askew and nothing I did seemed to fix the problem. This printer does the SAME thing. And it’s not as fully featured and it’s a lot noisier. Frustrated with HP.
I was without a working printer right in the middle of a very big project. The one I had was 3 1/2 years old and under warranty so was told I would get a new one at no charge. It came the next day, your service is very good, but when the initial set of ink needed to be replaced the PH would not move so that I could take them out. After much time with tech support I was told they would send another one, which came the next day, but it came without a PH and there was the message that I was to take the one out of the old one to put in the new one. The reason I was given the new one (both refurbished which would have been acceptable if they had worked) was because I couldn't get it to move, so I decided to just go ahead and buy a new one, but since it was not a replacement one, it took a week to get here. When I plugged it in, the red light came on that there was a paper jam. Which, obviously being brand new, or at least that is what I was paying for, there should not be any paper in it, and there wasn't. Finally, the 4th one in three weeks is working, even though I keep telling it how much I hate it.
I've been working with computers since the early 70's. I was in the tech dept. at Shell Oil. I thought I would have to return this printer, as it was a fight from the word go to get the software installed. There was not a disk in the box, which is OK but there should have been a link somewhere to the software. It was click here, go there, try again, we cannot connect, over and over and over. I finally did get it to work on print only. 2 days later, a popup told me the desktop software was available, so I downloaded it. It all works now, but you don't know just how close I came to returning it. And, it would not recognize my username and password. No amount of work on my part (or clicking "I forgot my password" even though I did not) would enable me to log in. I finally gave up and signed my wife up.
I haven't had my new HP printer that long and I haven't really used it that much in these first few weeks but, no problems to report! I bought the printer to use in my home office and so far, so good.. I have to use HP Smart to scan because of an issue with my computer but even that's not a problem! HP Smart is user friendly, always ready, and as close as my phone!
