Great build & quality but screen UI & trim lacking

Love the hefty GE quality with good steel and no cheap mismatched aluminum. Quiet and efficient even with convection. Great door seal. Screen and options feel like an after thought and for this price point not having chintzy photos of food or being able to set clean regularly used pre-sets rather than a huge clunky menu seems absurd. Also, having additional trim kits for bottom or top not just the one standard seems reasonable or handle color options instead of Café faux copper. Still, super happy with function and can settle for form.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Lots of features, but difficult to navigate.

My rating is a 2 right now, but may go up to a 3 as time goes by if I can figure out how to cook in it. It is very nice to have all in one so my countertops are not cluttered with a toaster or microwave. My husband and I have mostly used it for microwave usage and toasting. I don’t love that the toasting takes so long and it doesn’t have settings for light and dark…you just have to wait and watch until it’s done. But, toasting sandwiches works very, very well and we eat a lot of sandwiches! The microwave works well. I have tried a couple of dishes using the speed cooking, but I do find it difficult to navigate. I even tried one of the apps recipes, but it didn’t make sense and didn’t cook the food. I ended up using the regular oven. I’ve read through the manual, but it’s still hard to understand the U, L, M settings.

We're happy to provide some guidance!
Follow these general guidelines when selecting the best U=, L=, and M= settings for your favorite recipe:
U- Select a higher setting for thin foods requiring a golden brown top (example: fish fillets, toast, boneless chicken breasts). Select a lower setting for thicker foods and foods with high sugar or fat content (example: muffins, roasts, casseroles), anything that requires a longer cook time.
L = Select a higher setting for thick or dense foods that may not cook quickly in the center (ex: steaks, casseroles). Select a lower setting for thin foods(example: cookies).
M = Select a higher setting to shorten cooking time for dense or heavy foods (example: casseroles, whole chicken). Select a lower setting for delicate foods (ex: breaks or foods requiring longer cook times and tender results for foods such as pot roasts and stew.

Good hardware, could be smarter.

Overall, we enjoy using our GE Cafe Speed Oven. It does what we needed, as a microwave and secondary oven in our space constrained kitchen. It looks great in our new cabinet. While we haven't really utilized all of the features, it can be a little confusing on what mode to use. There can be multiple ways to cook, and it can be hard to find a preset or if you should just use convection. Onion rings turned out great, while we haven't figured out fries yet. Peanut butter cookies turned out a little darker (not burned) vs our regular oven at the same settings. Some settings are oddly specific, while I wish it had a few more general options (reheating meat or bread). And while it is smart, it could be smarter. I don't mind notifications when I'm home, but don't need them when I'm away. The app doesn't plug into any ecosystem, and while I don't need control, it could trigger automations (flashing lights, etc) if it were tied in to Apple/Google/etc. Hopefully software updates can make cooking decisions easier, and possibly give power users more automation options.

Overall happy with this product so far. I can't wait to use it for when we host Thanksgiving and other events. My only wish is that you didn't have to constantly change out the different trays for the different features.
