A great build

This set is a great build. I’m someone how typically is building with bricks opposed to Technic, so this was an excellent first “hard” Technic set. I do have a few concerns about the design though. The set advertises having the six cylinder engine, which it does, but the only way to engage the engine is to turn gears in the trunk of the vehicle. I’m not sure if this is a common feature for other Technic cars, but it would be nice to have an easily accessible gear to turn to operate the engine. I also thought it was a little disappointing that the door handles are non-operable. Not a huge loss, just a thought. But aside from those two things, honestly I love the set overall!

Great design and fun build

This was my first Technics model and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience building it. I am very impressed at the skill level your designers have in engineering this masterpiece. When I bought it I had no idea it would have a working four wheel drive setup with front, rear, and center differentials, and a two speed transfer case with forward and reverse settings. Do your designers have engineering degrees? I must say I am very impressed and so glad I am an AFOL

Enjoyable Build

First, was thrown off by it being only 4 sections. But within those 4 sections were numerous bags. I don’t rush through these, take maybe only 45 minutes to an hour each day. Building was not too hard, but it helps on some of the fingers were a lot thinner; especially on the motor parts. Looks very sharp after it is put together. On the decals I wish they would number them in the order that they are used in the instructions. But that is only a minor inconvenience. That was my favorite technics build.

I really enjoyed building this set. I really like the colors and the lines of the Defender. Just be careful with step 65.
Thanks LEGO keep up the great work and ideas!!!

Great product

This was my first time building a technic lego set and I really enjoyed the building process.
The model works great, but be careful a tiny mistake can have an impact in the vehicle motion. So check twice
while building.
Overall, I think is great that the designers try to get every detail possible for their technic sets.
I will definitely buy another technic set in the future.

Land Rover

This was a challenging build. The transmission gear box doesn’t work even though I rebuilt it twice, thus the 12 hour build time. The first time while trying to joint the front and back sections something happened to the rear differential causing the rear axel to stop operation. There really is no process to go back and fix mistakes. The only way to “Fix” the problem was to tear apart the whole build and start over because there is no way to back out to a good restart at this point due to all the parts that hold the overall build together coming from many different directions. Once I got the Land Rover finished I too found that putting the transmission in “D”, “N’, or “R” had no effect on anything. More time should have been put in to designing a transmission that works, and also accessible for troubleshooting. A better option may have been a few battery powered motors (with Bluetooth, like the Disney Train) for a drive system. Overall the Land Rover is a nice model although it is huge. I also feel that the size causes issues with the doors and tailgate not working as smooth as they could. I would have preferred a size more like the VW Bus, VW Beetle, Mustang.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great, Just a little dissapointing

Overall, the model is a great build. The complexity of the gear system makes this a challenging build that you really have to pay attention to. I made a few minor mistakes which resulted in minor rebuilds. With the experience of the Mack Anthem, I knew to double check everything periodically.
I only have two minor problems with the end result. The first one is the same that most people point out. For all its complexity, the end result of the gear system appears to have little impact. The vehicle rolls just the same in F/N/R and the pistons under the hood don't really seem to be affected by the selector, except N and the High/Lo doesn't do anything along with the +/- nob. In the end, doesn't really affect the overall outcome of the model as it's just going to be a display piece.
The other issue I had was I didn't get a rubber band for the rear door locking mechanism. Again, not a problem, just a slight annoyance. First set that i've actually not received a part.
