This kettle certainly boils water. However it is very loud and seems to boil for quite a time before switching off. So it definitely works as a kettle, it's not exactly quick, and I'm inclined to use the camping kettle on the gas stove in the mornings because of the noise level. It's KitchenAid brand so it will be well made and I expect it will last a long time, as with other KitchenAid products I've purchased over many years. Good design, weight and easy to refill, and I really like the ability to keep the electric cord short as a safety measure. This particular purchase is just a bit underwhelming.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This kettle works very well except for the spring up lid which, after 9 months, failed to work correctly. Perhaps just one of those things. I have swapped this for a new one, exactly the same. This problem has not changed our faith in KitchenAid.

All of my small appliances are Kitchen Aid, so I'm happy to be able to match them with this kettle. No plastic is contained in the internal workings of this kettle - very happy about this. Plus, I just love the styling and the safety aspects of this aplliance.
