Beautiful toaster; poor controls design

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really wanted to love this toaster. It's sleek, different, has long as well as wide slots, and is RED! However, it has many problems. The controls are terrible. The high-lift lever to push down to start your toaster is on the left, right beside the similar-looking but shorter lever to select the light/darkness. I knew when i saw this that I would automatically push the right-side lever down to start the toaster, as I assume many right-handed people would. Sure enough, that happened. Also, the little icons that show you the many functions (bagel, defrost, etc.) are impossible to read without a flashlight. This is really annoying. Finally, the "Just a little longer" function barely works. The toast comes back up hardly changed. The only way to get your toast a little darker is to put it down again and stand there and watch it, as with every other toaster I've ever used. We had a KitchenAid regular 2-slice toaster for many years and replaced it with a Russell-Hobbs. I like that one fine, but my husband is a toaster-critic and always wants a better one. We will go back to the Russell-Hobbs. You don't know when you have something good until you try to replace it with something worse.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am very disappointed with this toaster. I had a kitchen Aid toaster which became unusable because of the lever to raise the bread broke. It toasted all bread very well. I replaced that unit with a much cheaper unit which lasted for one year and although the heating elements stopped working, it toasted the bread perfectly. The new toaster does not do that. I use the toaster mainly to toast English muffins. In order to get the muffins brown, we have to run the cycle twice for all bread types. It just won’t brown the bread the first time. I’m tired of paying good money for things that do not work as advertised

This toaster does not toast properly. It is on the highest setting and still the toast does not turn brown. I have to toast bread twice. Very disappointed in this toaster

Best Toaster I've Had in Years

It's not absolutely perfect. This toaster really toasts, so you do have to figure what settings you need to not get very dark toast and I'm not sure how it would do if you prefer light toast (I prefer mine on the dark side), but I'll take having to figure settings out any day to a toaster that barely gets toast warm and doesn't even do that if you don't pop the toast back down two or three times. Really, I've been very disappointed in the toasters I've had -- none of them cheap either. But none of them worked nearly as well as this one: none of them toasted evenly front to back, not to mention up and down, and this one does! I'm very pleased.
