This laptop has a structurally sound build quality. It should hopefully survive the bite force of my parrot for a few years! The fans overall run quietly. While gaming, it does seem to get very warm, I've heard under clocking the cpu should fix this, but I don't game often enough for it to be a concern, yet.

Purchased the Y740 (17") to replace my gaming PC as I will be moving overseas and wanted a mobile way to game. Bottom line: a fantastic machine and I would recommend it to anyone in search a high end gaming laptop. I've fully transitioned from a PC and have the laptop hooked up to a second monitor with no issues. One downside: the charger for it is a BRICK. Not a major issue, but does make it trickier to pack up and adds to the weight, if you're looking for something as lightweight as possible.
Taking the plunge to get the Y740 over the cheaper versions is 100% worth it as the quality of the frame and laptop itself is sturdy and feels nice to the touch. The keyboard feels great to type on and even game on (I have tried MOBAs and basics like Minecraft so far), and the RGB aspect is admittedly worth it for the pretty colours. *-*
As anyone can find on the internet, the battery life is pretty meh at a few hours at best of internet surfing and even less if you're doing anything intensive. Not an issue for me or anyone else who will have it plugged it regardless.

It's huge, it's powerful, and it's cool (literally). It hasn't flinched at anything we've thrown at it so far, and it has been running a lot cooler than the competitor machine we have here. Very pleased with the performance and design of this beast.
