Good features, bad connectivity
on October 11, 2019

Great product and features, but my unit looses gps signals too easily and sensors disconnect for no reason. I’m on the latest gps and firmware. The forums would indicate I’m not the only user with these issues. I replaced one device already, but the new device has the same issues. Garmin was close to perfection but then shot themselves in the foot where it matters most.

Great Bike Computer

Upgrading from a Garmin 810, I saw major improvements in the 830. Enhancements I find useful are battery life, climb pro, ease of pairing sensors, and immediate touch screen response, just to name a few. I thought the 830 was a ”simple” upgrade but it exceeded my expectations in improved quality, build, and software.

Very easy transition from edge 520. Have some problem (uploading) sending courses from " connect" to the unit. No easy click. Other than that, very nice unit.

I updated from an Edge 800. Major improvements in readability, battery life and Turn by Turn directions. I am getting much better than the advertised battery life.

Features

I purchased the Edge 830 for the features and I don't regret the purchase. The two features I really like is the navigation and nutrition alerts. At 70 tunnel vision has set in. The reminder to eat and drink are a big help.
There are only two things that concern me; the auto back light doesn't always work. It seems to depend on the profile I'm using. I've had to turn it off on one profile. The other issue is the manual isn't very intuitive. I've had to use U-Tube videos to learn how best to use some of the features.
With that said, I prefer the 830 to all my other cycle computers. It's a big improvement over the 820.

Actually works

This is the first Garmin Edge I've had that actually does what it's advertised to do. It appears as though the competition from other manufacturers woke Garmin up. Battery life is great. Processing speed is greatly improved. Touchscreen is much more reliable. Hasn't locked up yet.

Lots a problems
on October 11, 2019

I bought this about a mouth ago and had problems with this unit since. It won’t turn off, won’t upload, won’t transfer info to phone unless I do a master rest. GPS goes in and out a lot. The sleep mode works half the time. I’m not sure what to do with this unit. Maybe you all should contact me and replace unit.
