First day of us and it drops to the floor by accident, it is scratched all around the display, lack of protection for the field use and unexpected damage in a single drop, i can't image if it happens again

A device with potential, but lacks focus
on November 28, 2020

I gave the device 3 stars because it does do what any smart can today, provide directions. I had very high hopes for this device. What I wanted was something that I could use to track my hikes, mountain bike rides, and road rides. Additionally, when need could help me navigate the trail or a road ride. I wanted something that I could easily, on the fly enter the trail or park, pick a trail, and start riding or hiking.
Sadly, that's not what I got, instead, I have a device that makes me jump from desktop to phone to device. A device with a User Interface that is not intuitive and is loaded with stuff I don't want or am not interested in using at this moment, but there it is loaded to the gills clutter.
If I do manage to get an MTB park selected, I can find no simple way to tell the device, "I want to ride this trail first, then this trail next, and so on. If there is a way to do the UI lacks the ability to indicate the process.
On day one, I managed to get a park loaded the night before my ride, it took hours, 3 devices, and 3 apps. The location has 17 trails. I wanted to ride 9 of them, in an order of my choosing. The instruction claim you can do this, but after fumbling around on the trail, trying to figure out all the beeping, blinking, and flashing of information, I just turned it off and just rode the trail as I normally do, that is not being sure exactly what trail was going to connect to which. Thanks, Edge 830 you didn't help me enjoy my ride. It was helpful in getting me back to the parking lot, it did record my speed and distance.
I picked the Garmin 830 because my expectation was they are the best at navigation, well... I feel like made a big mistake and wasted a lot of money on something that if you "Garmin" had just stuck to making a navigation device, and not a trainer/fitness tracker device it would have been great at least one of those activities. The problem is it's trying to do too many things, with the intention of getting the user into a Garmin only environment. (the Apple Marketing Model)
Honestly, why is it so hard to plan a ride or create a map? I tried your map creation feature... OMG!!! I tell the program, it's going to be a mountain biking course. I drop a pin in the woods, I drop the second pin, the program moves my pin to the closest street. I can do this quickly on a google map, it's intuitive, it figures out what trying to do and asks me to confirm if that what I want to do. Did nobody "Walk the user Process" while this was in development. Here is a tip, I offer this because I'm sure nobody is reading this review, you hand the device to a bicycle rider, who is not familiar with the Garmin environment and you ask them this use the device with the instructions and resources provided. You use a wide target audience of various rider levels, you use the feedback to improve the UI design.
