Fab battery life, great screen resolution

My third Garmin (800, 820, now 830) and first one I can recommend w/o hesitation. Used it on cross country trip and found battery life unbelievable. Even on days > 100 miles, I still had 70% of battery left at end of day. Loaded routes easily from third party source and gave turn by turn directions, easy to see mappings and off route alerts. Has clearer readouts of my Varia and interacts with built in remote buttons on my Domane SLR7 w/o programming.
Only negative is the alarm system is not loud enough and performs inconsistently. Wish it would "scream" if someone tried to roll away w my bike.

I was using the ELEMNT, The 830 is a better unit. No problems and no issues.

Decent computer

It works well most of the time.
Great mapping for my complex ride to work and great in the mtns.
The "call wife feature" on me dumping over on a slope works GREAT. Yes - I had to find it - crawling to the bike to turn it off before it made the call... (do not need any more friction on letting me out to ride!)
It is inconsistent on connecting to my phone.
I am surprised it does not have better battery life. I can easily ride longer than it can track me. Fear of getting lost!
Sometimes confusing on power off vs sleep which can eat the battery unexpectedly. I just have to be sure I get to power off screen.
It could be me but I could use better integration of obvious things like "go home", "go work" etc. I use routes now. But I like the system to map me the ride with a few button presses depending on where I am.
I have about 1 sw crash per month... Usually when trying to follow a route I have downloaded or saved. I am usually not on route or partway on it, and it is trying to align where I am vs where is the route...
In general it is a great gadget and I like the product.

All the features of the 1030 in a smaller package
on October 11, 2019

I bought the 830 as a replacement for my 1030. It fits the bill, the touch screen is extremely responsive, the battery life is great and the mapping is what I loved about the 1030 and this is the 1030s equal but at a lower cost

Missing all the power features of my 520 plus
on October 11, 2019

I expected a bigger, "badder" version of my 520 plus, but got a larger, less-featured computer. Now I'll have to get the 530. Bummed and disappointed in Garmin.

An Improvement
on October 11, 2019

I've owned the 810 and 820. I've purchased the 830 right when it was released. It's a BIG improvement to say the least. Glad Garmin final figured it out.

Excellent display and feature set
on October 11, 2019

Upgraded from a Garmin 820 having previously owned several other earlier models (305, 500, 510 and 520). The 830's touch screen is highly responsive and quite readable. Excellent battery life and a very rich feature set --especially like ClimbPro. No regrets; a worthy upgrade from the 820.
