Too small
on June 8, 2020

I should have bought a bigger one. 830 is just too small and I really didn't like the brightness while in a treed area w sunglasses on. Im returning it and will possibly purchase a 1030 or a competitors brand. It is what it is..

Must have gear
on June 10, 2020

Limited use thus far, but it is most definitely a must have! I paired the UT800 headlight and RTL515 with it. That alone is an awesome setup. But the feedback I get from the 830 on the performance of my rides is great. I have the sensor bundle, which gives me cadence and HR and speed. I haven’t used the mapping features yet, so I can’t add anything to that, but overall so far I like the unit very well.

Worth It, but between Good and Excellent
on June 15, 2020

I love the device and all of it's features and decided on 5 stars when somewhere between Good and Excellent is where I actually fall. The interface is intuitive. Although, being new to Garmin, I looked for too long for a touch screen method to start a ride, before I realized there is a physical button for that. I like the touch screen, color and accompanied app. My only ask is for better methods to create and upload routes. Would love to send routes from Google Maps, but the fact that I have to download a file and connect the Garmin to a computer is inconvenient.

Great product overall

I have used Garmin products for years and they work really well. Reliable, capture a lot of data, good integration with other products and the account. There is only one pitfall that I noticed recently when I started comparing the data with other riders, the elevation metrics seem to be off by good 10% to 15% in the low side. I am not sure if other products have better technology or software but I was a little disappointed when someone brought up the topic and I started comparing my data.

Bought it because I didn't want to have to constantly fight with setup and connectivity. Wasted my money.

Best of the Best

Coming from an OG Garmin 500, I had sworn off bicycle computers for both aesthetic and practical reasons - my Garmin watch collected data just fine, and was easier to sync & upload to Strava, and the clunky computer between the bars just started to look nerdy and "data only" driven. Riding mostly unmaintained roads without cell service, however, no matter how much plotting and planning I do, I've had a constant itch to get a new computer just so I can feel a little more confident jumping off where the road diverges.
The Edge 830 is perfect. The processer is super quick, the plotting with Strava routes and GPX files uploaded to Garmin Connect is unmatched (sorry Wahoo fans, it's true) and the climbing feature is super helpful. I haven't had a chance to scope out the MTB specific features (aside from linking my Trailforks, which is awesome integration) but I'm only just still getting used to this unit and have seen a significant increase in my performance, a clearer picture of the data I want (when I want it) and really, most importantly, how much fun I'm having. Couldn't recommend more.

Used my 830 with sensor bundle for first time today, and was so pleased with how all functions worked seamlessly without any work from me. Thats how the tools is supposed to work!
