Love all the function of the 830. But the blue tooth connection seems to drop out and in randomly.

It’s great when it works

Had to replace an Edge 500 that I washed with my shorts. Looked at many alternatives including Wahoo. Selection of the 830 was largely on the basis of the lesser of evils. There is a definite learning curve to understanding its features and how to avoid the dreaded frozen screen. I still can’t get it to go on auto pause but most other features work. I’d call tech support but it takes a good hour to get to them. There’s lots to like. It has a large screen that you can use to scroll between various functions including the main screen and maps. The screen cycles between light and dark mode automatically. It pairs every time with my heart rate monitor and most of the time with my iPhone. The navigate to function works well. Battery life is decent. Ride upload works most of the time. A major reason to stick with Garmin is the Garmin Connect site. Hydration and caloric intake function appear only post ride. One major hint: Power off the unit after the ride is uploaded. Otherwise there is battery burn in sleep mode. It is voltage sensitive so I’d recharge it when itge battery got to 25%. Hope this helps!

Absolutely Love my 830

I was introduced to the 8-series family with a friends old 800 and 810, later buying my own 830. I am delighted by the information it tracks, analysis it provides, ease of customization and the garmin service (had a little software glitch early on, that was corrected by a software update). It amazes me how much info it captures and presents.

Great for shorter rides

I really like the new mountain bike features and the ability to add the external battery pack for a longer ride. The only real problem I have with it is that it doesn’t track along a long saved route very well. It keeps telling me I’m off-route just because it doesn’t have enough points to reflect all the little turns on a saved route, so I look at Gaia to verify I’m still on course. This was just annoying when I took it for navigating the Tour Divide.

I purchased the 830 about five weeks ago. I had used an 810 for years. I had some challenges getting started however the technical staff at Garmin was helpful and patient with me on two occasions. There some remarkable features that just amaze me. I still have a lot to learn. The 830 synced with my computer and my training program very smoothly. Can't wait to learn all the features.

This is the first (real) bike computer I've had as I've always been skeptic of the capabilities. I have been very positively surprised that it is very intuitive, has many features that are easy to navigate and manage, is very robust, connects quickly and seamlessly to the phone (easier they my fitbit even!). I've already improved my times just in a few rides!
