This collects so many different data points, make it wasy to measure performance strength or weakness. It also measures how many jumps, hang time and shows where on the route was the highest ranking one. While researching this product, I saw that feature, thought I didn't need that, but it turned out to be a fun one to review. The other one is the phone connectivity, displays text messages with an option to have automatic replies. Again didn't think that was a big deal, but it allows me to see if there is an important one that requires me to address. While my other Garmins worked well, this one is easy to connect to sensors. The only downside is battery life doesn't last long while connected to cell phone, maybe 3 4 hrs. Previous models owned, 800, (mine) 810(wife's) 830 mine

Great features but inconsistent connections

Lots of great features like imported workouts from TP and integration with my Kickr but the Bluetooth connections to my phone are very inconsistent, it unpairs regularly, requires manual repairing with Garmin Vector 3S power meter with every use. Interface isn’t very intuitive. On the positive: battery life is great and loads of features (if you can figure out how to access and use them

Overall pleased with my purchase of the Edge 830. However, I do wish uploading rides was less complicated and could be done on the fly or with the Garmin connect app. Hopefully this will be available in a future update on Garmin connect.

Overall I like it...

This is my third Edge. They keep getting better. Like the size and the screen is great. Love the LiveTrack feature. Courses are cool...but there are a couple of misses. For mountain bike trails that loop (I do laps on a lot of my mountain bike rides), the 830 gets “lost” a lot — and restarts a ride when it “finds” itself. Basically, the course becomes nearly useless. Also, for climbing — especially on the stats after a ride, gradient information would be really nice to have. When you rock a 19% climb, you want to see that in the data. You ONLY see that when you are doing a course. A very good stat to include in the Connection app.

Overall I am pretty pleased with my Edge 830. I like the tough screen features and the ability to connect to my Di2 system to be able to change screens while biking. There are a lot of great features I really enjoy. In terms of improvements, it still has issues connecting with my phone and the Garmin app to upload my ride when completed, even though while riding it is connected and I can see text messages. Another improvement opportunity is the auto-start. When I am done with a ride and hit save, if I forget to turn it off or put it in sleep mode, it will start on my drive home. It has also auto-started while sitting on my desk and not even moving. This feature needs to be fixed. Overall I really like my 830 over my 520.
