Best Garmin Edge Version Yet
on October 12, 2019

I’ve ridden with the 830 Edge now for about 3 months. It’s hands down the best Garmin Edge yet. The feedback performance stats makes this worth getting. Know where your fitness is immediately after your ride and if your ride was productive or not. Track how your fitness is evolving overtime as the software tracks your progress. Maps and all other functions work fantastically as you would expect - I’ve owned previous versions (820, 810, 500, etc) The only minor criticism that I have is that GroupTrack occasionally doesn’t connect to riders I’m trying to meet up with and vice versa, but when it does it’s great. My only suggestion to Garmin is to integrate recovery time into the Garmin Connect phone app. In order to view your recovery time, you have to your device on and check it. When recovery time is multiple days, this seems inconvenient. Every other ride statistic is viewable and downloadable via the app. Why not include recovery time so you can view it when you are recovering over the next few days without having to locate your device and turn it on, especially when you’re not riding?
Otherwise, Garmin has hit a home run with the 830 as far as I’m concerned. If you’re considering purchasing, you will NOT be disappointed.

I have a 1030 (my wife confiscated it for her), a fénix 5X plus and a 830. The 830 has become my favorite for cycling

Solid device

I've had an Edge 510 and 810, and am happiest with this 830. The 510 was great and stable, but I wanted turn-by-turn. The 810 was good, but super unreliable. It would reboot randomly or just freeze during rides too often. The 830 has done this once, losing sat signal, but otherwise, it's been solid. Really quick to respond, good tracking, nice features. Overall, I'm really pleased with it.

Top Notch

Few months now and 4K+ miles on it has never failed but you still struggle a little on wet fingers wet screen combo and if u like me have a screen film protector is worse, (I might take it off soon) cause it is good without it on wet. it just got freezed once and stuck on the powering off circle and came back to life by pressing power+play buttons for few seconds. The display is a winner, the new metrics and my favs iQ apps makes it better. I ditched a 1000 and a 1030 in favor of the 830

Broken from the start. Moved to the 1030
on October 12, 2019

Purchased the 830 and it was broken from the start. It just froze and would not reset. Took it to the Trek dealer and he could not reset it. Also found the screen was too small for my eyes. Paid the extra and got the 1030. Not thrilled with the 1030 due to sometimes the navigation is way off but overall I like it. Please read other reviews on the 830 to get a better feel for it. Most likely it's a good unit and I just got a bad one.
