Amazing device

Bought this a month ago to use on my first century ride; really enjoyed the ability to track myself. A little difficult to read in bright sunlight, but otherwise does everything well

Did shut off during one long ride that really needed. Just froze and had to shut it down and restart. Other than that it has been awesome

Just a couple of quirks

I have had the 830 for the summer. I had to replace the first one because the compass only new about due North and never shifted. Luckily, customer support provided me with a new unit very quickly. The Connect IQ apps are not as stable as I would like. Some apps work and others work once and then forget some pairing or connection - so I suspect it is a bit of who programmed the application and also lingering bugs in the 830 firmware or the development software provided by Garmin. Either way, the need to use Eclipse (SDK using Java) would be easier if the whole package could be loaded and not having to dig around the internet to get all the pieces I need to build my own. The Connect WEB interface is more or less OK, but the layout is not as clean and concise as it could be.

Great Battery life.

The 820 was great but it had a very short battery life so I could not use it. The 830 excel here. The maps when you follow a route iare great mainly the mountains profile as you climb. My only negative is that I can not hear the cars using the Varia radar, it was excellent in the 820. I believe the problem is in the location of the speaker. I use an integrated handlebar with a bracket that moves the Garmin 2 inches in front of the handlebar that may make the matters worst but again, with the same setup the 820 was perfect for sound. I hope whenever the design the next model, use a louder speaker or move the speaker to a different location, back perhaps.

Great device but also very buggy

Got this about 3 months ago. I've had many success with it but lately also some bugs like complete freeze halfway during a ride. Another time somehow the device lost app power overnight. One other time It would reboot when starting tracking... Had to hard reset to fix. Never had this on my 520+... So a little disappointed

Some quirks still need to be worked out

Had this for a few months and it is a definite upgrade for the most part from the 810. Packed with features that most people will never use. However some features that most people want are not 100%. Blue tooth connectivity gave me fits at first there are still issues. Getting my texts to appear has been a process and is still not perfect. The upload process on the 810 was great. On the 810 as soon as you saved the ride it uploaded even if the Garmin Connect app was not opened. Now the app has to be open for the ride to load. Those are my main two issues. Everything else is great. Screen resolution, battery life are much improved. Integrated Trailfork maps is also awesome if you are a mountain biker. A lot of cycling friends have gone with the wahoo but the garmin is a better unit in many fronts. On improvement for garmin would be the ability to send routes to the unit via Bluetooth.

Had plenty of Garmin gps units. Best so far with touch screen sensitivity, number of screen choices. Just set it up with Di2 to control screens and shifting!
