Love the touch screen and climb preview

I’ve owned for 2 months and love the simple user interface used while riding. I would rave about it if Garmin finally got with the current industry norm ( ie Wahoo) and used a linked phone for configuring the various data fields - font sizes and pages . The current field setup is cumbersome and clunky - classic Garmin.

Garmin 830

Has every feature I could ever image using plus a few more. Incredible graphics, unbelievable navigation, excellent battery life. I like the incident detection, and integration and control of the Garmin lights from the Garmin 830. The altitude climbing “elevation to go” feature is a real neat feature. I did have trouble getting the Garmin to connect with my iPhone X early on. It was very fiddley and had to be reset at every ride. Then all of a sudden has recently started to work perfectly. Possibly a software update cured the issue?

Ease of use, large display!

I’ve had my 830 for a little over a month now. It’s been fantastic. I had the 820 since it first came out, I liked it but wasn’t thrilled with the user interface. The smaller screen didn’t help. Still, it was a good companion for training and racing. I had dropped it and the screen cracked, and still worked well. But when I got the chance to see the 830 in action, I opted to jump on it and glad I did!! Love how easy it is to use, especially the map and ride feature.

Love this GPS, problems with iPhone

I have had this GPS for two months now and it works great. Easy to navigate. Finally a GPS for mountain bikers. My only problem is that I just got an iPhone 11 and it is almost impossible to connect, and if you do it will not sync. I have had to connect it to my computer for the last week. Not sure if this an apple or garmin problem. Many other people are having the same issues. I have not seen much in the way of bug fixes from either side.

Great Mapping - Slight Glitches
on October 12, 2019

I bought this about a month ago to replace my Edge 510. The route guidance and screen maps are great. When in the data field mode, the turn directions are much larger and easier to read than on the 510. However, there is one glitch that is annoying. My new 530's screen has frozen twice since I've owned it. The first time I stopped and Google'd the problem on my iPhone which helped me reset it. The online manual does not specifically address how to resolve this issue. I know what to do now, but it was a matter of trial and error to figure it out. When the screen is frozen you lose the ride date while frozen.
The 530 also does not connect with my phone on start up and does not download the ride as easily as the 510 did. I have since learned how to get around these glitches but it's was a matter of trial and error.

Very customizable, versatile and feature packed

I have had my Edge 830 for about four months (July 2019) and I am an average cyclist riding both road and mountain bikes. I purchased a package deal including the head unit, speed & cadence sensors and a heart rate monitor. I already had speed and cadence pickups (Bontrager DuoTrap) on my road bike and use the included Garmin sensors on my mountain bike. Switching between the two is automatic.
I have ridden around 825 miles using the Edge 830 including two century road rides. Both of the century rides had pretty difficult course directions. I was easily able to import the course data files for those events into the device and the directions and notifications on the unit during those events was perfect.
Setup for the data I want to see was pretty straight forward and very customizable. There are many choices for data and format, so it took a bit of trial and error to get it the way I want but in the end, it is perfect for me and touch screen makes it pretty easy to change things on the fly if I want to.
Having different profiles on the unit for each activity, Road or Mountain, is also pretty cool. The mountain biking feature of monitoring and giving feedback of my jumps, if you can call them that, and how smoothly I was able to get down the trails is very interesting and I think it has helped me to develop my skills a bit more.
The screen is easy to see in direct sunlight and adjusts automatically as light conditions change.
Battery life is more than adequate for my style of riding. I have had it on for well over 8 hours of riding over several rides and still had plenty of battery life remaining.
There was, and still is, a bit of a learning curve that I am going through with the unit. I have had some minor problems with it but those were due to my lack of understanding of how the unit works. It has a LOT of features that I have not utilized yet. I would suggest if this is something you are thinking of purchasing for a specific event, that you get it well ahead of the planned event to be able to learn how the unit works and to get it setup for your specific needs.
Overall I am happy with my Edge 830 and would recommend it to anybody.
