The first best add on is the Varia Radar light that pairs with the edge computer. The edge helps me get the most out of every ride.

Better than 820

Used this on a trip to Europe and also in US, The screen being bigger and brighter than the 820 is nice. Disappointing that you can't add memory so can't Have both US and Europe maps on the device, have to erase US to put on Europe and vice versa. The interface for putting in trips is a little complicated but it does work well once you figure it out. The device is very reliable and very good reception even in areas with trees and other obstacles. Once you get your trip loaded very easy to follow.

Needs work

Nice features but there are a number of issues. The device does not always pair with my iPhone so I typically have to restart garmin connect to get it to work. The big issue is the elevation accuracy. It is based on the barometer which for some reason is always off. I already had to send it back and get a new one. Still the issue persists. Start and end elevations are never the same even though I start and finish at the same location. To make it worse you have to go onto garmin connect on the computer and fix each ride manually to correct it. In the end strava on my iPhone was less hassle.

Nearly Perfect

The unit has performed superbly 99% of the time. Rarely it stopped mid-ride even though I didn't hit the Start/Stop button. The letters are small for entering navigation destinations in the middle of a ride. The incident detection function performed perfectly alerting my wife when I had an accident.

Great upgrade and training device

I’ve had this device for about 2 months now and like it a lot. I upgraded from a 510 because the battery wasn’t holding a charge very well after so many recharge cycles. The 830 is a battery hog mostly because I have a HRM strap and Assioma duo pedals. I use my unit for training only and the data it can provide is impressive. I have no interest in the map function even though I use this exclusively for road rides. What I am looking for is improving fitness. Honestly the features are too many to list but I really like the power, HRM, cycling dynamics, % grade, intensity, aerobic vs anaerobic to name a few. For this, it was completely worth the upgrade and I would recommend it to anyone looking to improve fitness.

Great little addition to riding!

The Edge-830 is a great little addition to my riding. It can give you most of your riding stats on one screen. It tells you what trail you are riding on and you can usually watch for cross roads on the map screen.
The only things I can say on the con side is that it needs a good printed manual for some of us. Most of what I have done on it is by "stumbling through the screens" hoping to find out how to do what I want. Also when using the Edge-830 HR monitor it seems to be very inconsistent whereas my Polar HR monitor is very consistent.

Works, but not easy to use.

I love having all this information right at my fingertips but, this thing is far from intuitive to use. It has so many settings and it's just plain NOT obvious where they are and what they all do. I also have issues with inconsistencies in connecting to other devices and LiveTrack fails regularly.
