Huge improvement over the Garmin 520 (previous generation)

The Garmin Edge 530 is responsive, and the battery life is excellent. New out of the box, even with multiple Bluetooth and ANT+ sensors connected, a one hour ride may only deplete the head unit's battery by 5%, even with brightness at 10%. In my experience, it is not necessary to have the screen backlit when riding in the daylight. Buttons are also responsive but also give you enough feedback when you press them, and the unit is easy to operate with gloves on. Cold weather performance and water resistance is great.
Maps work well, with turn-by-turn directions still a little weak. If you miss your turn, it will attempt to "recalculate" the route but this often results in the Edge 530 recommending you to make a u-turn instead.
This little unit is exactly what I needed for all of my cycling. It is loaded with local trail names and street maps, and has the ability to pull maps from other platforms and download to it. I can easily swap between gravel, mountain biking or road cycling. It syncs to the HRM that I already had from a previous garmin bundle. Specific features I especially like include the push button vs touch screen (since I often ride with full finger gloves), the turn by turn directions, elevation maps, and hill climb data. I've taken it on many turbulent rides and the unit stays secure on my handlebars.

Works better than my old 520. Holds battery charge longer, easy interface and it even records jumps :). Happy with it.

Great for indoor/outdoor use

I've used this biking indoor and outdoor with no complaints. I guess the buttons are stiff but not terrible. I use it multiple times per week on my indoor trainer (Kickr) and it pairs and controls the workouts really well. I love how customizable the screens are. Battery seems like it lasts forever. I charge it every few weeks. I've also used the maps in Hawaii and on vacation and it works great for navigation.

Solid Choice

I have used this extensively and find that it's reliable and easy to use. The Garmin Connect app allows me to aggregate my data from different Garmin devices - my activity watch and scale. Updates and configuration could be better. Sometimes when an update gets sent, I have to reconfigure my dashboards, which are not the easiest to configure. It would be nice to be able to configure dashboards through the app.
