I've owned the Garmin 530 for about 3 weeks. It seems to work flawlessly and is linked to several of my other bicycling apps. It's Bluetooth to my phone and automatically updates from the Garmin to my phone without any issues.

Well it's not even a week old. The immediate problem was getting it paired with my I Phone but we were successful at our area Bike shop. Now I've to learn how to use it soil be looking for a U Tube video to get info on how to use properly.

Works well much of the time but could be improved

I've been using the 530 on a 4 1/2 month bike trip through South America. We still have over a month to go. For each day we have a GPX file that I load and follow the route. The maps work really well - I love how you can just extract whatever maps you need from OpenStreetMaps and put onto the 530. We have 109 riding days on this trip.
Issues I've found:
1) The Navigation features sometimes freeze and stop working for a while. Typically after riding 100km or so, then it recovers after maybe 5-15km more. Doesn't happen every day. It happened out in the middle of the Salar de Uyuni so definitely not a problem with satellite reception! It is imperative to have a backup device because of this failure. OsmAnd phone app with tracks loaded works great, or Maps.me.
2) It doesn't understand switchbacks. It keeps calling them U-turns which is confusing. Come on that should not be so hard to fix.
3) It should be easier to load routes without a computer. Most people on this trip have only a phone and it is so clunky that they all just come to me so I can use my laptop to load maps or routes for them. You have to improve this process. Most people REALLY don't have a computer on trips any more. Computers must be supported and are ok for home, but it HAS to work away from home too.
Ending on a positive note: Battery life is exceptional! Best of any device like this I've used or heard of. The other day I did a 160km stage and my battery was at 82% after. Killed it!

New features are great, but typical Garmin quirks
on October 28, 2019

Overall, the Edge 530 is a good computer. The new navigation features are really nice. It is convenient to be able to import a route using various methods, and have the computer calculate turns and climbs automatically. The battery life is great. I have found it to consistently get the advertised battery life even when using backlight, Bluetooth, and other features that ruined battery life on older units. Overall, the unit has been reliable and accurate for me. I've done 100+ mile events following old school cue sheets and had the odometer spot on to the end. (race director decision, not problems with loading routes) Beware of weird issues, though. The new button style is not as good as the old style. Often the buttons take some extra pressure to register, and sometimes the click can be felt and other times not. If I have weather alerts enabled, my unit will always tell me that there is a flood alert, even if there is a drought or freezing weather. (this is something that has affected multiple Garmin units I've had) Connected features are sometimes unreliable, and often the fix is to unpair and repair the device. Basically, expect typical Garmin quality. It's a solid device that does GPS really well, and has some cool new features that older units did not have. But it has the typical bugs and quirks, too. If you can live with the quirks, it's a great device.

Awesome

The customizable screens are amazing. So much infoon one screen, without pushing a button. Great! Love the pop up Hill climb screen. My only issue was the lack of info to get it set up to wirelessly get routes from ride with gps. I feel I almost needed an it degree to figure this out. But all works seamlessly now!

Buttons too hard to push
on October 29, 2019

They are well hidden and don't need to take a lot of pressure to push, they do. When pushing a button mine spun off the mount and hit the ground and got scuffed up. I know there is the leash but never had to use it with my Edge 500 or 520. Not happy with this at all. Would not recommend this unit to everyone and I've been a Garmin Fanboy for well over 10 years.
