Breaks easily and now is useless

Pure piece of junk. Headband mount for muffs broke. Cannot locate a replacement and not it is going into the garbage.

Another review of broken headset

Add me to the list of frustrated customers. There is no point in adding pictures. If you're reading reviews, they are all the same failure point. I really liked these but they broke due to a cheap plastic piece and I certainly will not buy another pair. Pros- (after adding 3M gel cups) these are super comfortable! I have worn them for 8-10 hour days without issue or complaint. They offer good NRR for being at the range. I haven't shot indoors for several years but I would suspect it would be wise to double up. The sound cutoff is fabulous..my favorite attribute. Mid-priced competitor models seem to completely cut out for a second where as these react much faster. That feature made me really enjoy this model. From a a functional prospective they have been my favorite headset. Cons- The volume could be a bit louder. Having a couple more clicks up would have been nice. BT music is always much lower than ambient sound. They are a bit bulky but not the worst I have seen. The biggest con is this stupid plastic design. I accept that things can break. I looked on online for a replacement part...nope...it doesn't exist. Coming here I see that I am not nearly alone...it happens all the time. That's the real shame here...3M knows about it and simply doesn't care. I'm not a tree hugging environmentalist but it's silly to toss away a headset that you like and still works simply because the manufacturer will not offer a cheap plastic replacement part that is known to fail. We have all looked at the broken part, it's easily removable and hence would be easily replaceable. Its just ridiculous that you cant get the part. 3M-Customers are literally begging you to take money from them. Sell them in pairs because we all know the other side will break shortly. I'll buy a new headset but it absolutely positively will not be another Peltor 500.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Dynamic supression great, but odd interference

I bought these a few months ago and use them at indoor and outdoor ranges and also while I'm woodworking (both handtool for chopping mortises and dovetail waste) and when using power tools. It is great to be able to hear sounds and voices. In fact, these have an uncanny way of amplifying low level sounds, which is kind of cool. As to ear protection, these work well for both indoor and outdoor ranges as well as in woodworking. As others note, the headband can be uncomfortable. It appears that 3M simply didn't user test these, which is very odd. If I am careful about positioning I can usually wear them for hours, but if they are slightly off the top of my head starts hurting. For me though, the main issue is the strange audio signal that I hear. I'm not sure what it is from, perhaps bluetooth, but it is almost always there and detracts from the experience. As to music quality, these are only OK. My Bose QC35s blow them away. Listening to music through the Peltors is not a great experience--it all sounds flat and compressed. But I didn't really buy them for music--that's just an extra for me.

Great Product.

I shoot competitively, bullseye rifle and pistol and getting into action shooting. I like using electronic hearing protection because I want to be able to hear range commands or conversations, but when its time to shoot I like to drown everyone out. I've tried other electronic headphones and felt they worked good, but I couldn't wear them over my ears for long because they were uncomfortable because of my elf shaped ears. I've wanted to buy a pair of Peltor for awhile, but thought since I had a different pair I didn't need these, until I forgot mine for a 3 week competition. Not only are these super comfortable, but the sound quality is so natural that I literally forget that I'm wearing them. Did I need the Bluetooth capability, no, but it works great. I love that the music volume and the volume of everything else are independent, which will also make them great to mow the lawn with.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Bass scratchy

I've had this product for a couple years with light use. In the last year the bass doesn't perform as it used to. It's low, scratchy and honestly annoying. I was very happy with this product till then. Headphones should last a lot longer than that especially for the price tag.

They are comfortable to wear

My wife and I both have the 500's. We use them around power equipment around thehouse and I use them while shooting. They ha great sound quality, the pairing is easy with my Iphone & iPod, and the noise canceling is adjustable. The only issues I have had over the past couple of years is the head band and the battery door. The head strap has already broken as well as the battery cover retaining strap. I had to use a zip tie to hold the head band together. It would be great is the headstrap would swivel or have an option to wear behind the head. You can't wear a head cover over the head strap. Standing in the sun all day without a hat can be painfull.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Not so good for a 3M product

I bought my Peltor almost a year ago a week ago I got it broken. The clip that holds the ear piece on the band brokes and I can not find on any online store a way to buy a new piece. Without it, it is impossible to use it. Please, send me a online store that I can buy this replacement piece.

Very weak plastic. Do not buy.

Very cheap and weak plastic. Broke where muff connects to headband rendering them useless because you can’t find replacement parts.
